| There were not much birding activity during Feb 2002. This was mainly
because of the Chinese New Year and also because I had to send my scope
back for service as a result of the infamous fungus problem. This seemed
to have affected many Swarovski scope owners. Some of the pics in this
album are very dark because I had darken them to reduce the effect of the
flare probably produced by the fungus in the prism. Hopefully when my scope
is serviced, I will get better videos.
The discovery of a Chestnut-winged Cuckoo near Ipoh caused a big excitement
in me. Fearing that I may never be able to video this species again, I
went several consecutive days to try my luck. Not much good video could
be obtained because the bird was often partly hidden, and always knew when
to hop on to the next brach just before I could properly compose my shots.
After several days of failure, I decided to use the TRV20 instead
of my 3 chip TRV900. This was because the former has a small front lens
and has a much wider useable zoom range, ideal for close distance videos.
My better videos of the cuckoo was taken with this camcorder. I also played
with the photo mode of both camcorders and some better pics are the
results.
After I sent off my scope for service, I could only try some videos
with a 3X Kenko teleconverter. As expected, the zoom is much too small
but surprisingly, I did get some decent shots, particularly from inside
my car.
