Kim Chye led an owling trip to Kuala Gula on 16 June followed by birding at Burmese pool the following day. We had a good view of a very cooperative Barn Owl at Kuala Gula but all the Spotted Woodowls found were very shy, perhaps because of the large party of 19 birders in five cars. I did not get any good videos of the owls and so no pics to show.

The following day at Burmese was also not very productive in terms of video recording. The highlights were sighting of the Orange-backed Woodpeckers and a nesting Black-winged Flycatcher-shrike. The following are a few birds I managed to record. The Collared Kingfisher was recorded at Kuala Gula.

Collared KingfisherThis bird was standing near the bund at Kuala Gula late in the evening. It was kind enough to let those new birders take a good look through the scopes. It even made loud calls t help them learn the species calls. However, lighting was not too good for videos.
yellow-eared spiderhunterThere are lots of spiderhunters at Burmese pool. This Yellow-eared and the Spectacled Spiderhunters below were preening in adjacent trees in the morning sun.
spectacled spiderhunterThis seem to be a favourite branch for this bird. It returned to this place several times.
velvet-fronted nuthatchvelvet-fronted nuthatchThree nuthatches were found moving rapidly up and down the main trunks of several durian trees. Too fast for proper focussing and framing so I just simply point and record. Surprisingly, I got some decent videos.
