We
saw this dark morph of the Changeable Hawkeagle while on the way to Bukit
Andaman. It was standing beside its nest and making loud calls. |
This
juvenile Dark-necked Tailorbird was chasing after its parents for food
at Bukit Andaman. |
A
lone Oriental Pratincol was resting close to the road along the coast.
This species seems to be very common in open fields in Langkawi. I saw
quite a number of them in the airfields. |
 There
were also lots of Pacific Golden Plover in most of the open fields in Langkawi.
Some were already in breeding plumage. |
Red-wattled
Lapwings are also aplenty in all open fields in Langkawi. Some pairs were
seen nursing their youngs while at least one pair was incubating. I think
they are as common as theRichard's Pipit there. |
A
large flocks of Plain-backed Sparrow was seen along the coastal area. |
Calls
of Blue-winged Pitta could be heard at many places, especially frequent
in Gunung Raya. This bird flew across the road and perched briefly for
this video to be taken. It soon flew back into the thick undergrowth. |
 This
male Wreath Hornbill landed in a tall tree on the hill cliffs above us.
Ooi and I managed to take a few shots before it continue on its flight
elsewhere. This species and the Great Hornbills could frequently be seen
at Gunung Raya. |
  Several
fruting trees at Gunung Raya attracted many Great Hornbills to feed. By
the last day of our trip, they were quite comfortable with Ooi and I taking
shots at them from about 40 feet. |
We
went to the Berjaya Resort stream to look for the Brown-winged Kingfisher.
We were all not very keen to walk in the stream to search for it. Fortunately,
there was a small trail along the stream and locals use it to acces the
river mouth to fish. We took that trail and were very fortunate to see
this bird without having to get wet. However, it was already very late
and I had to use slow shutter speed for this video. |
