On 19th Apr, I went up to Bukit Larut with Dr Chan Ah Lak to video the long-tailed broadbills. The light was very poor but nonetheless I managed to get some decent  videos. While waiting for the jeep to take us down and while skipping lunch at the Nest to walk, I chanced upon an orange-headed thrush. It showed me its back for only about 1 minute before taking off. On coming down the foothills, we went to the Maktab Sains Taiping to wait for the thick-billed pigeons to come and feed. Again by the time they came, it was already overcast with occasional thunder threatening to rain anytime. As soon as I had enough video and made a dash to my car 200 meters away, it started pouring!

Not satisfied with the results, I went to both places again on 22nd Apr, this time with my birding sifu Ooi Beng Yean. Worse luck this time. For about 3/4 of the time at Larut, it was either dense mist, drizzling, poor light or a combination of these obstacles to photography. Still, Ooi managed to get some shots and I  got some small views of the birds. On adjourning to Maktab Sains, the luck was no different. Rain, rain and rain. Fortunately, it was bright as soon as the rain stopped and one obliging pair of thick-billed posed for a long time for us.

Unless otherwise specified, photos were captured from intelaced videos takend with the TRV900.

very dedicated photographer !Who can be more dedicated than this birder (and the one who took this photo)? It was drizzling most of the time while at other times, the mist hardly cleared. Still we persisted and got something. Photo from TRV20 video.
long-tailed broadbill, small viewbroadbill in poorer lightbroadbill with different color tempThis long-tailed broadbill was perched for quite some time in this tree. The first picture was taken at about the best lighting availble for videography or digiscoping. The third shows a portrait view. Changing the camcorder color temperature does help, to some extent, in getting rid of flare from the mist.
orange-headed thrushBonus for skipping lunch and walking alone. This bird stopped for only about 1 minute in front of me but never turned to face me. So, only a back view is available.

large niltava, femaleThis bird flew and rested in front of us while we were hurrying back to catch the jeep.
Gold-whiskered BarberThe Gold-whiskered Barbet also visit the fruiting fig tree used by the Thick-billed Pigeons. Videoed with single CCD TRV20. Others that also came were the Red-eyed Bulbuls, Asian Fairy Bluebird, Yellow-vented Bulbul. The long-tailed macque also came, for the leaves but not for the fruit.
