"I ve just returned from The Front Page and have never been so surprised by a band as I have been tonight....
Icarus
Much hyped and much talked about, they boasted that they are gonna be the best band ever, well, not playing stuff like they did tonight they wont. Kinda like that stuff that bands like JJ72 and Muse would do, and indeed Ash would in their wossier moments. It wasnt all bad and some of their songs where very good and very catchy, especially the first two and the last song. However the middle of the set was occupied with boring easily forgettable drival. One thing that does stick out is the drummer - frickin amazing drummer. Also it was their first gig and they seemed a little nervous and the songs seemed to be played too slow as well. More gigs should bring about improvements. Funniest moment was when the bass players strap fell off, duct tape is wonderful stuff! I really wanted this band to suck, but they didnt so there.
On the Barometer they get 6 outta 10!
Blind Eye View
Seen these bastards too many times in my life! A wee problem with the guitar volume at the start but bearded Iain soon fixed that and things got rockin. BEV seemed to playing this a little faster tonight and it sounded better for me anyway. Toe tapping good stuff. Tighter than Jonnys underwear!
On the Barometer they get 7.5 outta 10!
Juke
Now this is where the surprise really kicked in. I expected to get some lame assed indie @#%$ played at me, you know that crap that involves lots of acoustic guitars and bass players who stare at there feet? - Well, no, i didnt get that. I got fuckin amazing kick ass indie-mo-punk. Thats what they call it, and who I am I to argue? Reminded me of a tamer version of Wilma. Lots of good chunky riffs and melodic chorus lines, plus a really mean sounding guitar and bass. Bearded Iain done a really good job on their sound. They dont muck about on stage either, a good show is provided with lots of jumping about and on stage action. Also they bring a fan club with them, so if your band fancies a gig in front of about 30 15 - 17 year girls (and who dosent?) then pester Juke for a gig. Great stuff!
On the Barometer - 8.5 outta 10
