Synopsis:
The U.N. recognizes the Avengers as a world power and the Avengers Mansion becomes the Avengers Embassy. Gyrich is assigned as the Avengers' official U.N. liaison. Cap solidifies the Avengers roster as the new roster is presented to the media. The United States government is not impressed that the Avengers no longer report to them and ensure that Gyrich will keep them well informed.

The Mighty Avengers # 62: "Broken Hearts"

Synopsis:
Scott Lang, because of his recent adventures with the Avengers, looses custody of his daughter to his ex-wife who is remarrying. He decides to throw all of energy into becoming an Avenger. Meanwhile Jack of Hearts learns a few things about his past and that he'll have to spend more time in the Zero Room to prevent his powers from detonating. He doesn't take the news well and takes out his anger and frustration on Iron Man, Yellowjacket, and the newly reinstated Ant-Man.

Avengers #63: "Standoff Part 3"

Synopsis:
Thor and Iron Man, wearing the enchanted armour, continue their devastating battle. Captain America finally manages to break up the battle and after taking a bit of a beating, he's able to reason with Thor. Thor realizes the line that he's crossed and steps down as an Avenger. Meanwhile, Dr. Doom annexes Slokovia promising them aid and religious freedom.

Jay's Notes:

  • Thor actually dens Captain America's shield during their fight.

Synopsis:
Falcon keeps an eye on Henry Gyrich at the request of Captain America who has reluctantly decided to give Gyrich a second chance at being the UN liaison for the Avengers. The relationship between the Falcon and Gyrich is strained at best, but when the Falcon rescues a young woman from the Scarecrow, Gyrich finds he can respect the man. Gyrich trusts him enough to let him in on the fact that the US government in interested in using him to spy on the Avengers.

Synopsis:
A mysterious red cloud sweeps through South Dakota killing people in a plague-like fashion. The Avengers step in but are confronted by the US military. Ignoring the US military's warnings, the Avengers don protective suits and enter the red cloud in search of its source.

Synopsis:
Iron Man and Black Panther's effort to neutralize the cloud at a government research facility is roadblocked as the US Secretary of Defense escorts them out as they no longer sponsored by the United States. Meanwhile, the rest of the team pushes deeper into the deadly red cloud at the base of Mount Rushmore. They uncover a secret lab and learn that the deadly cloud seems to have been made by a US bio-weapons lab.

Synopsis:
As the deadly red zone continues to expand, the Avengers move deeper into the US bio-weapons lab and learn more about its origins. They then have a run-in with some A.I.M. soldiers and their fight leaves the She-Hulk's suit damaged. Jack of Hearts tries to get her to the surface, but she changes back to her Jennifer Walters human form which apparently is ravaged by the virus. Meanwhile, back at Stark Technologies, Stark and Black Panther try to work together to find a cure, but are attacked and captured by the US army.

The Mighty Avengers # 68: "Red Zone Part Four: The Great Escape"

Synopsis:
The Red Zone continues to grow at an exponential rate. The Avengers discover that this secret chemical base was under the direct supervision of the US Secretary of Defense, Dell Rusk. Jennifer Walters transforms back into the She-Hulk, but she's gone totally savage and smashes around the Avengers. Falcon meets up with Gyrich to discuss their spying on Rusk and learn that he is in fact the Red Skull.

Synopsis:
Warbird returns to the Red Zone and helps her teammates regroup. The Red Skull beats up on Gyrich and gloats over him.  Captain America finally confronts the Red Skull. The Red Skull catches Cap off guard and captures him in a chamber and exposes him to the virus. The Red Skull then brags about how he'll ensure that Wakanda is blamed for the Red Zone.

Synopsis:
The Scarlet Witch unleashes the full power of her chaos magic in a desperate attempt to contain the Red Zone. Iron Man and the Black Panther confront the Red Skull. The Red Skull disables Iron Man's armor and then takes on the Black Panther in hand-to-hand combat. With a bit of help from the Falcon, the Black Panther takes down the Red Skull hard. Together Stark Enterprises and the government of Wakanda are able to neutralize the Red Zone. Stark and T'Challa sign a new scientific sharing agreement. Cap has a nice chat with the president about bio-weapons labs in the United States.
