Seaview Screen Grabs
Here's a few grabs that show the layout of the forward compartment
in the original movie version of the Seaview:
The rear bulkhead, second floor, looking up from the base of the spiral staircase.
Nelson and Crane have just come from the control room and are
descending the spiral staircase into the observation nose. There's a web of girders
extending between the upper deck level and the nose.
Looking in thru one of the windows, basically. Note the lovely appolstery, wood paneling,
and large screen Motorola in the bulkhead. The girders have a walkway to nowhere extending
from the upper deck hatchway. Probably to facilitate hanging decorations for the
Christmas party.
There appears to be one of those hideous chairs in front of each window. At left is the
edge of a control panel at which a crewman sits. God knows why, since the sub is steered
from the control room aft. Great detail on the girders here.
Wider shot shows the chairs are normal 4-legged types, rather than pedestal type swivel chairs.
I think the guy at the mixing board is the DJ practicing for that Christmas party. Admiral Nelson seems
to have his hand on a toaster.
Better shot looking aft shows an apparent dry bar under the telly. That seems to be just the
try with coffee pot there, as seen in the steward's hands in pic #3, rather than a sink.
To the right is an honest-to-god diner booth! More of that horrible orange vinyl!! Note also
a total of two ashtrays in the shot. Ah, the innocent 60s when nothing was bad for you!
Here's an exterior of the nose showing some internal girder detail. Note also the safety cage
around the headlight. Good thing, too - might have broken it on those sinking ice cubes.
There was some question on the bboard over the color of the underside of the diving plane on
the conning tower. Looks here like it's white under there all right! Note also the flag pole
sticking out of the aft base of the sail.
General shot of the belly as she cruises the surface. Doesn't look like they have her trimmed
quite right, does it?
The "emergency blow" that starts off the film. Anyone who didn't fall in love with this sub the
minute they saw this shot has no soul, I tell ya!
That's all for now!
