Journey to Vegan

Welcome to my Journey to Vegan!

So what is this place I call Vegan? It's a place where people live in harmony with nature--from understanding the surrounding environment and how our actions affect it, to eating that which truly nourishes our bodies, to respecting all inhabitants of our planet and the planet itself as a living system.

The purpose of this website is to share my journey to Vegan which began in April 2000. As of this entry in August, I have only met a few others who are traveling along this road; a couple who already live there.  One special person, who is already there, was my inspiration to start this journey which is changing my life choices in ways I never imagined.

This website documents my journey as I make changes and choices that affect every aspect of my life, to include my family and our homelife. My husband and teenage son respect the decision I've made to make changes. They are supportive, interested in what I'm learning, and willing to experiment with new foods, restaurants, and stores. On the sidebar menu, you will find the following sections from which to select:

=> About Vegan. This section describes this place I call Vegan. At this point, I'm not sure that I want to be called a "vegan." This is a personal thing with me because the structure of the English language tends to put people in boxes with the verb "to be." As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, career woman, artist, thinker, feeler...I am the totality of many things and not any one thing. And so, you might understand my resistance to the phrase "I am a vegan," or any phrase that starts with "I am a..." That's why I talk about Vegan as a destination, a place.

=> My Journey. This section explains why and how I decided to get off a well-traveled road and take the barely-beaten path to Vegan. At this point, I'm not sure how close I want to get to Vegan--the suburbs, city limits, or downtown. Maybe I want to live in the outskirts, maybe I want to be mayor someday. Whatever the choice, the distance traveled will be very far from where I am right now. This section serves as my journal of my experiences along the way.

=> Resources. This section documents the literature that I'm reviewing. You will find references to people, books, papers, and other websites. There's a part of me that is an applied behavioral scientist.  I have a passion for research, analysis, and making changes according to new knowledge.

=> Vegan Favorites. This section includes my favorites (and yours)--favorite recipes, restaurants, and stores.

=> Your Thoughts. This section is for your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions. Please share what you have learned about your own personal journey that can help others, like me, who choose to travel to Vegan.

                                                 Thanks for your time,
