Macedon

This township of 1,250 sits at the bottom of Mount Macedon, and began as a holiday village for the wealthy in the 1870's. It is located 65 km north-west of Melbourne, south-east of Woodend. Hanging Rock is where the novel and movie "Picnic at Hanging Rock" are based. This area is famous for its some of the most important collections of 19th century gardens in Australia.
