Gundagai

Situated on the banks of Murrumbidgee River at the foot of Mt Parnassus, Gundagai is a famous New South Wales town associated with the 'dog on the tuckerbox' in Australian folklore. The town of over 2,000 is located just off Hume Highway, 387km south-west of Sydney. Just north of town at Five Mile Creek was the meeting place for drovers, shearers, bush travellers and teamsters. There is a 'dog on the tuggerbox' monument there to mark this spot. The songs entitled 'The Road to Gundagai' and 'Where the Dog Sits on the Tuckerbox' have put Gundagai on the map.
