Eildon

Eildon is a fairly young town of around 600 people, located at the end of Goulburn Valley Highway, 140km north-east of Melbourne. It sits on the banks of Victoria's largest water storage, Lake Eildon, and the town was created in the 1960's to accommodate the construction workers. In 1837, long before the lake was built the area was mined for gold. Lake Eildon is one of the largest artificial lakes in Victoria, built to create hydro-electricity and irrigation for farms. The town is now a major tourist resort. The shopping centre is still in it's 1950's-60's design.
