Box Hill

Box Hill is a large suburb located on Maroondah Highway, 11km east of Melbourne CBD. It once attracted several Australian artists who admired the rural setting. In 1854 the town became a market centre for the fruit and vegetables grown in the area. In the centre of the main street is a stature of a white horse, which is in the city's coat of arms. Recently, the current tramline that ended to the west of Box Hill has been extended right to the main street. The centre of Box Hill is quite large with a divided main street and shopping complex over the railway.
