Unlike most of the characters that I portray in my
different shows, Gib Morgan was a real person. He
was an oil well driller and Talespinner who lived
during the last half of the 19th Century. The
stories and tales he created and told have some
down to us through the remembrances of other
oilmen and the people who heard him tell his
tales.
During this show, you will get a chance to see
what it would have been like to spend an evening
standing around in a hotel lobby or bar listening
to Gib hold court. Some of his tales would have
been familiar to you and some would have been
completely new. In fact, if you bend an ear and
listen to his tales now, it may well be that
you've heard one or three being attached to some
other folk hero or lore. Anyway you choose to
listen to them, these tales will serve to give you
an insight into an overlooked era of Pennsylvania
and American History.
