Having toured with Tommy for most of the previous year, the band decided to try and capture on tape the definitive live performance of the rock opera and the raw power of other standards such as A Quick While He's Away and Summertime Blues. This was done by recording most of their European and British concerts and narrowing it down to the shows at Leeds and Hull Universities. Live at Leeds was the resulting album.
