This was actually The Who's make or break year. It only spawned 1 single ( Magic Bus ) and by the end of year they were making a loss due to the lack of new material ( the band were still touring with their greatest hits of the last three years - not to mention the cost of their destructive shows )
A high point of the year
was the band's awesome
performance at the recording of "The Rolling Stones
Rock N Roll Circus". This
marked an end to their instrument smashing and a start to their
rockier shows. The film did not surface for some 28 years as (
rumour has it) The Stones where afraid that the Who had turned in
such a good performance that them may have upstaged them. ( they
did ) The other high point was the
commencement of the recording of Tommy.
