Ah yes, the ZX Spectrum. Love it or loathe it, it's a part of gaming history. If you go weak at the knees and misty eyed at the mere mention of the Spectrum, ZX81 or Commodore 64 it may well have more to do with your age than anything to do with nostalgia.
However, if you want to relive a misspent youth replacing the innocent jokes in TRASHMAN with more crude ones using your MULTIFACE ONE (or was that just me?), go back to a time when gameplay mattered more than graphics, or discover new things about the history (and future!) of 8-bit computer gaming it's all possible on the web. Here are a few links to get you started...
Cronosoft
The software house selling NEW games for the Spectrum, Commodore 64 and BBC/Electron.
Retro-Soft
Exclusive downloads of Spectrum games, both new and old.
Sick Happy Idle
Website of the Shaw brothers who wrote many Spectrum games for Atlantis.
Weird Science Software
The ZX Spectrum development team responsible for Flash Beer and Ghost Castles.
Earth Shaker
David Pegg's Earth Shaker tribute page. Includes a remake for the PC.
Retro Gamer Magazine
The UK's first regular glossy magazine dedicated to retrogaming, Retrogamer is essential reading for all die-hard 8-bit enthusiasts.
ZX Shed
Occasional Spectrum magazine, produced in PDF format.
Oldschool Gaming
Reviews of new games for old formats, includes Commodore and Atari games too.
The Rubber Beermat
A large number of Spectrum game reviews
ZX Spectrum games
More reviews of Spectrum games.
World Of Spectrum
THE archive of almost everything ZX Spectrum related and home of the WOS forums.
Bob's Stuff
Fellow Spectrum developer Bob Smith.
The Your Sinclair Rock 'n' Roll Years
Website dedicated to Your Sinclair, the famously warped Spectrum magazine which sadly disappeared from the shelves in 1993.
Crash Magazine - the Online Edition
Similar to the YS Rock 'n' Roll Years, but for Crash.
Computer Emuzone Games Studio
The home of the Spectrum Developers behind the excellent Cannon Bubble.
Gamestage
A somewhat controversial website, Gamestage sets out to compare Spectrum, C64 and Amstrad versions of the same games. Very professional presentation, I could learn a thing or two from these guys.
Retro Computer Museum
Currently only a virtual museum, but the curator is looking for premises.
The Speccy Zone
Lots of Spectrum information and some cool stuff to download. Nicely presented too - I like this site.
Yolkfolk
The Official Dizzy Fansite.
Dizzy's Domain
Excellent Dizzy Fansite.
I'm always happy to exchange links with related sites. There's a banner here if you'd like to use it. It's crap, but in a funky, skillo sort of way.
