DAVIESS COUNTY, IN. WASHINGTON TWP. PAGE 807 FRANCIS Zinkan was born near Washington, Daviess Co., Ind., and is the seventh of ten children born to Philip and Anna B. (HUSFELD) Zinkan, born in Germany and died in this country in 1875 and 1884, at the age of seventy-two and seventy years respectively. Our subject was reared near Washington, and resided with his parents until twenty-one years of age, when he married Mary, daughter of John and Mary CORCORAN. She was born November 8, 1845. After his marriage, which occurred November 21,1864, Mr. Zinkan resumed farming, having purchased eighty acres of land in Harrison Township. He lived there about five years, and then traded his land for forty acres, a portion of his present farm of 260 acres. To him and his wife were born these children: Genevieve, born in 1865; Maggie, born in 1867; John, born in 1869; Thomas, born in 1871; Rosa, born in 1873; Catherine, born in 1875; Maurice (deceased), born in 1877; Nettie (deceased), born in 1880; Esther, born in 1882, and Austin, born in 1884. Mr. Zinkan cast his first vote for Gen. George B. MacClellan, and has always been a Democrat. In November, 1882, he was elected to the office of county commissioner, and held that office a term of three years; was re-elected in 1884, and is now serving in that capacity. He belongs to no secret society, is a Catholic, and has reared his children in that faith. Data Entry Volunteer: Diana Flynn

Frank Zinkan, 80 years old, a retired farmer, the latter days of whose life were spent in the city of Washington, died unexpectedly at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Daviess County Hospital. Asthma complications caused his death. He had been ill since last Monday and was taken to the hospital shortly before noon Sunday. Born on the old Zinkan farm in southeastern Daviess County 80 years ago last October 8, Mr Zinkan was a lifelong resident of the county. His parents were Phillip and Anna Barbara Zinkan, pioneer residents of the county. The deceased married Mary Cochran sixty years ago; the ceremony being performed at St Simon's church in this city. Mrs. Zinkan died September 29, 1915. Mr. & Mrs. Zinkan became the parents of twelve children, two of whom, Maurice and Antoinette are now dead. They lived on a farm until Mr. Zinkan retired from farmwork and moved to Washington. The surviving children are: Mrs. Mary C. Molen of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Katherine Hopkins of Spokane, Washington; Mrs. Rose Kidwell of Lincoln, Nebraska; Mrs. Esther Truelove of Ft Wayne, Indiana; Mrs. Mayme Jackman of Indianapolis; Mrs. Margaret Riley, city; Thomas Zinkan of Wesley, Ohio; John Zinkan who is now in Florida; Austin Zinkan of Schenectedy, New York; and Ray Zinkan of Indianapolis. Mr Zinkan was a member of a large family, the members of which attained places of high standing in their communities. Two brothers and one sister of the deceased are now the only members of this family now living. They are Michael Zinkan of Glendale, Mrs. Elizabeth Michaels of Montgomery, and Jacob Zinkan of Washington. Frank Zinkan was a member of St Simon's church and the Holy Name Society. The family desires that no flowers be sent.
