Poltergeist is a horror classic
which, for 1982, has superior special effects. The Freeling's are an upper
middle class family with only the normal everyday problems until their
house is invaded by a poltergeist which kidnaps the youngest child and
turns her room into a swirling mass of supernatural force which is so far
beyond anything seen by the "paranormal experts" which the family calls
in that it is out right funny. Even a second "expert" brought in later,
and who seems to at least understand what is happening, must admit that
this is beyond her experience.
While this film is definitely a horror
film, it also has good drama and a few very humorous scenes.
