Entertainment Tonight: How much of the film is based on your real life?
Patch Adams: When I first got involved with the film, I was much more interested in them being true to who I am as a person, rather than true to biography. I'm not important, but the ideas that I represent are important. I think the movie is right on in presenting compassion, generosity, and humor. All of that is true. The actual biography is an understatement. ET: Did you ever think that there would be a movie made about your ideas and the things that you stand for? Does that blow you away? Patch: I find it fascinating that the only project in America for 28 years, addressing the problems of healthcare delivery, has been totally unable to get any donations to really build a service-oriented, free hospital for people. To do this, I have had to go to the movies to get that hospital built. I never expected it... Knowing Hollywood films, I knew my story was certainly as interesting as anything else out there. I would have preferred the name to have been the name of our project, "Gesundheit," because then it's about our ideas, and not about me. I'm not important in the equation, the ideas are important.
