Race Report
Dragon Rd 10 + 11 - Mount Ash - 7th and 8th September. By Ashley Laurem
Saturday morning me, Matt and Dan set off in the pouring rain to race the last rounds of the Dragon Series. When we arrived it was still tipping it down, with the track a stream down through the mountain.
The track at Mountain Ash was still really fast as the mud was too thin to slow you down. After a bumpy lift to the top it was a short muddy ride to the start.
Straight off the start was a rock drop, then into a steep rutted chute and a few open corners into 4 bus stops. The first had a steep rock slab that had to be jumped, and the last had a few tree stumps. Then round a left then right over a road, then bumpy and rocky down a steep drop onto a fire road. It was then flat out down and the round a dark bus stop that became very bumpy. Then it was round a slippy right-hander covered in ruts, then drop off the fire road, through some fast single track, another drop then chicanes over the road and a few bomb-holes to deal with. From here the track went across the hill, until two drops in a row. Lastly, it was fast flowing corners with the odd drop, then pedal down a path over the rocks into the finish.
Saturday's results weren't too good for us with me having no back brake and Dan crashing. Matt did manage 11th in Youth behind new MBUK/Scott rider, Dan Hume.
Sunday was a bit faster after the track had a chance to dry. I managed a 4th in Youth and Matt was 13th. Dan still didn't get on with the course, and kept crashing, a poor result after he won his first Dragon at Gethin. Dan Stanbridge (Muddy Fox) got the fastest time of the day 21 seconds quicker than me with 3minutes 56.
