[NI1138] Samuel came to New England in 1628, arriving before his father. Samuel was made freeman, 6 May 1635. He settled in Braintree, MA, where he was Town Clerk for many years. Will dated 16 Sep 1669, proved 16 Sep 1669. He is often confused with another Samuel Allen (1600-1648) of Windsor, CT, who came on the "Mary & John" in 1630.
[NI1140] Samuel Allen settled in Bridgewater as early as 1660. He was deacon of the church there. He was the second Town Clerk there, from 1683-1702. Representative 1693. He was in many battles with the Indians in King Philip's War. His will is dated 1703.
[NI920] Moved to Sandwich, Cape Cod about 1662. He moved to Martha's Vineyard (Tisbury) in 1668/9 with Josiah Standish and William Pabody. He moved to Chilmark abt 1686. He was one of the leading spirits of Tisbury and Chilmark, and one of the largest land holders. At one time or another he owned seven of the original home lots on the west side of Old Mill Brook, besides all the dividends accruing from them. In 1675 he was made Assistant under the Mayhew regime, and after the Island came under the jurisdiction of Massachusetts he was one of the first three Justices of the Peace. He became Selectman of Chilmark in 1704. He refused many important offices but wielded temendous influence and had the honor of being the first one to hold an office on the Island who was not related by blood or marriage with the all powerful Mayhew family. In 1701 he gave Tisbury the land for a burial place and new meeting house. He is buried in that graveyard. His tombstone reads "Here lyes the body of James Allen Esqr. aged 78 years died July ye 25th 1714".

[NI4417] Between 1630 and 1637 the records of Richard's marriage to Mercy Ruscoe, the baptisms of three of his children, and the burial of one of these children appear in the parish registers of Sawbridgeworth; but after 1637 no trace of him is found there or in any of the neighboring parishes. He probably soon settled the affairs of his father's estate, and in the spring of 1638 left England for New England, where he appears in 1639 at Hartford, CT. The first mention of him at Hartford is in Feb 1639/40, when he is found as a grantee from William Ruscoe, who was evidently a kinsman of Richard's wife. Original proprietor of Hartford, 1639. Chosen chimney viewer, 1647. He was one of the signers of the agreement for planting Norwalk, 19 June 1650. In1651 Richard Seamer and Nathaniel and Jon Ruscoe of Hartford (sons of William Ruscoe from Billericay, near Chelmsford, co. Essex, England) were among the fourteen original pantentees of Norwalk. Townsman 1655. Will dated 29 Jul 1655, proved 25 Oct 1655, inv 10 Oct 1655, Norwalk, Fairfield, CT.
[NI4420] At his father's death in 1665, Thomas was the only one of the children of age. As his mother soon remarried and removed to Farmington, with her younger children, Thomas succeeded to his father's lands in Norwalk, where he lived until his death. Freeman, 1668; deputy from Norwalk, 1690; one of the patentees of 1686. Thomas sealed his will with the wings of the ancient family of Seymours of Bery Pomery, Devon, England. Will dated 22 Sep 1712, inv. 15 Oct 1712, proved 7 Nov 1712, Norwalk, Fairfield, CT.
[NI4398] John Seymour was in Hartford as early as 1664. Freeman 1667. He was a member, though not in full communion, of the South Church when it was formed 12 Feb 1670. Will dated 10 Dec 1712; proved 3 Aug 1713.
[NI4423] Freeman, Farmington, 1669. From the record of lawsuits in the County Court proceedings it is evident that he was engaged in trade with Barbadoes. He removed to Wethersfield bef 1688. Will dated 14 Apr 1702, proved 11 Nov 1702.
[NI4425] Freeman, Farmington, 1669; one of the 84 proprietors of 1672; the leader of the Great Swamp settlement in 1686 (Kensington), and captain of the fort. He was killed by the fall of a tree in 1710. Inventory presented 29 Nov 1710. Estate administration granted 4 Dec 1710 to his widow, Hannah, and son Samuel.
