[NI17180] Born in N. Ireland, clergyman, educated at Univ. of Dublin. He was mentioned in Henry David Thoreau's essay on Cape Cod for his work in helping his congregation not only in matters of faith but also with agriculture and the use of peat. Samuel Osborn came to America in 1707 from Ireland. He married in Edgartown, MA (Martha's Vineyard) where he was employed as a school teacher. In 1712 he was employed as a schoolteacher at Sandwich, Barnstable Co, MA. In 1717 he was invited to preach at Eastham, Barnstable Co, MA.
