[NI72]
Joshua Osborn first enlisted in the spring of 1776, at the age of 17, for service in the American Revolution, and was a private for 8 months under Capt. John Lewis and Col. Douglass. In the spring of 1777 he again enlisted and that time served for three years under Capt. Theophilus Munson and Cols. Chandler and Isaac Sherman. He was one of the soldiers who wintered in Valley Forge in 1777-8. In the winter of 1778-9 he was quartered in Conn. Village on the Hudson. He enlisted in 1780 and 1781, each time serving 8 months. He participated in the Battles of Long Island, Harlem Heights, White Plains, Germantown, and Monmouth.
0 census he is listed in the town of Derby, New Haven, CT. In 1794 he was living in Colebrook, Litchfield, CT, where he was a selectman in 1806. In January of 1808 he bought for $2 an acre a large farm of 647 acres in Trumbull Co, OH, about a mile north-east of the center of Southington. Joshua and his family moved to Ohio in 1809, taking 40 days by ox team to make the journey. He settled in Southington township, Trumbull Co, and was among the early settlers of the township. Like the early pioneers, he began in the woods and made himself a good farm and lived upon this until his death. Joshua held several township offices and was a member of the Methodist Church. He died in 1837 leaving a family of 13 children.
n memory of the soldiers of three wars (1776-1812-1861).
[NI80] Died at age 74 y 10 m 19 d.
[NI81] Leonard and Amanda settled on a farm at North Bloomfield or Southington, Ohio. He sold this farm 22 Jan. 1857 and they moved to the "Center." During Gold Rush days, Leonard went overland to California hoping to make his fortune and we know that at least part of the time he was at Grass Valley--now one of the ghost towns. His return home was by boat around Cape Horn. Apparently, like the majority of those who went, he came home wiser but little richer.
[NI59] Stephen Osborn came to Ohio in 1809 with his father Joshua and settled in Southington township, Trumbull Co. He came to Bristol township in 1830. He first settled upon the turnpike south of the center, and here resided about 20 years, then moved to his farm. He had 134 acres of good land. He was quite a hunter and trapper in his day, and took much pride in exhibiting his old wolf-trap. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Stephen had a brand registered 26 May 1834 - crop and slit in right ear and half crop on underside of left ear.
[NI82] Living in Shiawassee Co, MI in 1874.
[NI88] Died at age 78 y 9 m 29 d.
