Hi Marilyn,
Glad to hear from you again. Sorry you were unable to get to Live Oak this
past summer. You missed a lot of "seems like 110 degree heat". The old
records have been moved to the Court House and to the Court House Annex in
which we have the Geneology Library. We have done a lot of work since you
were here. Mary Anderson and Jinnie Hancock do an outstanding job of
"tending the library" on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 to 5. They also make
visits to cemeteries and to other geneology "sites" collecting whatever
anybody will give us for the library. Through the local Vo. Tech Community
Ed. Program, Mary, Jinnie, and I "taught" a beginning Geneology course for
seven weeks each Thursday evening this spring. People are hounding us to
do another one. I keep telling them I don't know enough to teach, but since
I am a retired teacher, I go up and sign the
register to teach and they do most of the work. My only problem is I do not
like to be tied down to any one routine, even for one night per week,
unless it is to play bridge.
Back to discussion of the Old Records you referred to; they
were mostly old tax rolls and other very old books. The old tax rolls have
been very interesting and Glen and I have found legal descriptions of most
of the land owned here by the old Carvers.
Good to hear from you again. I have been intrigued by all the emails going
back and forth through the one spot. James is very good to do this for all.
It seems most everybody has very good info to contribute and I appreciate
it all. I am such a computer novice that I cant even use all the material
provided.
I gave my son Mark a lot of the material tonight. I printed a lot from
James' webpage and told Mark when he gets his email address, that I want
him to join and to send his name to James for the right-to-left family
tree. So long for now.
Raymond
