Georgi Georgiev


  Georgi , DOB 08.12.1998 in Montana. He was diagnosed as Alagille syndrome, biliary atresia and complex form of Tetralogy of Fallot. In July, 1999 an aortopulmonary shunt was performed in Sofia, Bulgaria to improve oxygen supply. The child was liver transplanted in November, 1999 in Essen, Germany, Zentrum fur Kinderheilkunde by Prof. Broelsch and his colleagues, pediatricians Dr.Wallot and Dr.Ballauf. That was a living related transplantation, the doner was the mother.The child suffered posttransplantation complications of EBV-associated PTLD and a.cerebri media sin. infarction. He recovered successfully from both. One year later the AP shunt was found non-functioning. Dilatation of the right ventricular outflow tract was performed in Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin by Prof. Lange on 11.12.2000. The child is in a better state, we hope his heart malformation to be corrected a few months later.


Bogoyavlena Karabalyska


  Bogoyavlena  was born on 30.05.1999 in Plovdiv. She was diagnosed biliary atresia at the age of 1 month, Kasai operation was unsuccessful. The child was liver transplanted in Medizinische Hochscule in Hannover on 21.02.2000 by Prof.Dr.Klempnauer, Dr.Nashan and Dr.Kardorf, pediatrician Dr.Rodeck. That was a living related liver transplantation, the doner was the mother. Reduced size retransplantation with cadaveric liver was performed on 7.03.2000 because of initial non-function of the first graft. The child was switched from CsA to tacrolimus because of severe hirsutism. Bogojavlena is in a good physical and mental state.


Nikola Stoyanov


  Nikola was the second child in his family. He has a brother, 5 years older. Nikola was born on 16.09.1999 in Varna. He was diagnosed to suffer from biliary atresia at the age of 2 months. Kasai operation was not successful. The child was liver transplanted on 17.06. 2000 in the Universitats Krankenhaus Eppendorf, Germany, by Prof.Rogiers, pediatrician Prof.M.Burdelski. The transplantation was performed as an ex situ reduced size liver.The post-operaive course showed some complications: portal vein and hepatic artery thrombosis which were repaired intra-op, a moderate and severe rejection which required switching from CyA to tacrolimus, several bacterial infections. Due to a late rejection CellCept was added to his immuno suppression. Now Nikola is in a good physical and mental state.


Mishel Dimitrova


  Mishel , DOB 27.06.1999, Plovdiv. The child was diagnosed as biliary atresia at the age of 2 months. Kasai operation was not performed. The girl was liver transplanted in the University Clinic of Innsbruck, Austria on 26.09.2000 by Prof. Dr.Margreiter and Prof. Dr.Konigsrainer, pediatrician Prof.Dr.Ellemunter. The transplantation was living related, the donor was the father. Because of CMV-missmatch ( the father was CMV-positive) the child was intensively treated with i.v. Ganciclovir, too.
