The Baroness was the second child of European parents who made sure that she and her brother, Eugene, had the best of everything of life. During the time of the Southeast Asian conflict, Eugene had abandoned his aristocratic lifestyle. Using his power and influence, he delivered medical supplies and other needed items into the war-torn region. On one tragic occasion, Eugene's sitter, Anastasia, accompanied him on what would result in a deal gone bad. Eugene was fatally wounded just as another soldier burst in and apprehended the saboteurs. Anastasia, who had been in another room, believed that the soldier had destroyed both her brother and his supposedly peaceful contacts. This set her on a course of revenge that would lead her to international terrorism and, eventually, Cobra. Nominally designated the Director of Intelligence for Cobra Command, her duties actually covered a much wider range of loathsome activities. On an early mission, the Baroness was severely burned during a Cobra night attack operation and had to have extensive plastic surgery.   Incredibly self-involved and lacking in empathy, the Baroness has all the primary qualifications of a world-class oil company executive or corporate raider. She is a highly intelligent and ambitious individual, having worked her way up the Cobra ranks by becoming a confidant of both Cobra Commander and Destro. For years, she often enjoyed pitting the two against one another even as they all plot the overthrow of G.I. Joe and the conquest of the world. Rumor has it that she is the only one who has seen Destro unmasked. More recently, her allegiance seems to have shifted markedly towards Destro, but it remains to be seen if this is simply a scam.
