SOCAN Honours Great Big Sea With No. 1 Song Celebration
Toronto — The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) caught up with Great Big Sea band members Alan Doyle, Séan McCann, Bob Hallett and Darrell Power prior to their show at Massey Hall in Toronto to present Number One plaques for their chart topping song "Sea of No Cares" on October 24, 2002.
"Sea of No Cares", written by Alan Doyle, Séan McCann and SESAC member Chris Trapper, topped the MuchMoreMusic Video Countdown on May 6, 2002. It is the first single and title track from Great Big Sea's latest album, released by Warner Music Canada. The song is co-published by EMI Music Publishing Canada and the band's publishing companies.
SOCAN is the Canadian copyright collective for the performance of musical works. It protects the performing rights of its members (composers, lyricists, songwriters and their publishers) and those of affiliated international societies by licensing the use of their music in Canada. The royalties collected are distributed to its members and to affiliated international societies. SOCAN also distributes royalties received from affiliated international societies to its members for the use of their music worldwide. SOCAN has offices in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton and Dartmouth.
