The Manager

The Manager of Dundee United FC is Alex Smith. Smith is a very much respected Scottish manager and is about the best and most experienced manager in the Scottish game. Alex took over the club midway during the season of 2000-2001. When Alex took over the future of the club was hanging on a thread as the clubs financial status was very poor with the export of wages to over 50 players employed at the club.

The club were also bottom of the league without winning a game until Smith's arrival. He arrived under the contract of interim but was later offered a new contract to keep him with the club after Smith saved the club from relegation and sacked over 20 foreign players who were crippling the club with their wage package. Alex Smith brought in young talent from Scotland , buying Jim Lauchlan from Kilmarnock and the discovery of Paul Gallacher and Jamie McCunnie.

Alex Smith is 64 years old and is one of Scotlands most respected managers. He led Aberdeen to great things after the departure of Alex Ferguson with partner Jocky Scott. Smith has also managed and improved lower league teams such as Clyde, Stenhousemuir, East Fife and Premier outfit St Mirren. Dundee United is his fifth team he has managed and probably his most awarding time as a manager.
