Alan Combe Spent five years from 1993 to 1998 with St. Mirren whom he joined from Cowdenbeath but was out of contract with Saints in the summer of 1998 when he agreed to a switch to Dundee United. Spent most of the 1998/99 season as understudy to goalkeeper Sieb Dijkstra but in the Dundee derby at Tannadice in November 1998 got his Tannadice first team career up and running. When Sieb Dijkstra departed Alan became the first choice goalkeeper and throughout the 1999/2000 season he consolidated that position with a string of impressive performances which led him to be named Dundee United Player of the Year for Season 1999/2000. Lost his first-team place due to suspension in January 2001 and this situation continued for the remainder of the 2000/01 season due to the excellent form of Paul Gallacher. Gallacher's consistency of form further thwarted Combe's come-back aspirations in Season 2001/02, and on 31 January 2002,in his quest for first team football, Alan went on loan to Nationwide First Division club Bradford City until the end of the 2001/02 campaign. |
