Sidestroke

The side strike is a fun stroke used mostly for swimming distances. It also does not require special breathing techniques. Because this stroke is done on the side, your mouth and nose remain above water level.

Start off swimming on one side, just like in the picture, with one arm outstretched and the other arm by the side.

Then the body is pulled forward by pushing the outstretched arm at an angle of 90 degrees. The other arm is bent towards the chest. Feet are kicked in a scissors-like manner.

The outstretched arm is bent to gain extra distance and speed. It is also an opportunity to rest the arm for a while.

The body floats into side position repeating all the steps. Keep in mind that the face must be above the water all the time.
