General Manager and
Chief Executive Officer Ms. Sonita Jagan and Deputy
GM Terry Holder at yesterday's news
A plan by
Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) is seeking to provide
communities from Moleson Creek on the Corentyne to Annai in the Rupununi in the
course of this year.
GT&T's
General Manager Sonita Jagan yesterday listed what she said were the company's
"first priority" communities:
Orealla,
Moleson Creek, Mibicuri, Bush Lot, Mara, Esau and Jacob, Kuru Kuru, Soweyo,
Muritura, Mabura, Kimbia/Ebini, Mahdia, Kurupukari, Hogg Island, Santa Rosa,
Kabakaburi, Wakapau, Hosororo, Matthew's Ridge, Arakaka, Annai, and Sand
Creek.
Included in
the "second priority" communities are Baracara (Canje Creek), Mora Point, Long
Creek, Silver Hill, St. Francis, Wineperu, Maria's Pleasure, Zeelandia, Hackney
and Dadanawa.
Ms. Jagan told
reporters at a news conference that each of the communities would be provided
with a booth voice service, believing that will suffice until a more
comprehensive programme is executed in those remote areas.
