Inland valley Central pushing forward despite setbacks

As we move into the month of July and into the summer, Inland Valley Central Tlacatonatiuh continues to move forward united and determined to accomplish the goals we have set for ourselves.

The past year was not easy, we weathered many storms including the loss of one of our member chapters Rio Hondo College and the resignation of our internal coordinator who had to step down late in the year for personal reasons. Despite it all, the central has remain united and we are moving forward.

We challenge those with vision, leadership skills or both to come forward and take over and lead the Central into this new phase. We have man goals that we are still working on and would like to see to fruition including our continuing quest to give MeCha a non-profit status so that we may be able to take advantage of that status, we are happy to report that the UYA conference at Cal Poly in early May was a resounding success and we thank all those who participated and those who set up workshops.

One goal which we would like to see accomplished, especially in this time that the Central needs direction is setting up our advisory board which should be comprised of former MeChistas and advisers which can guide us with their experience and their connections. Do you know a person you would like to see on the advisory board? Perhaps a teacher, a counselor or a hard core former MeChista on your chapter campus? If you do please do what you can to get this person to join our advisory board for the betterment of our Central.

Also there is the CalmeCac program the purpose of which is to get Chicano studies programs at each individual campus. Most of the work at Cal Poly has already been done and finalized, what is left to be done for each campus is to review the program and make suggestions and changes. In order to accomplish this we must get input from every general member if possible, or at least involved members and officers from the individual chapters.

At this critical point in time we have to recruit: Even though some of our campuses are barely going to be getting into the swing of things once the academic year begins, we must remember that recruitment is a key to keeping the Central strong and focused. We have set up our mesa for the upcoming year. What would you like to see Central Tlacatonatiuh do next? How are you going to contribute to change the status quo? These are the questions that must now be answered as we move into the summer months, so please come help as we continue to plan events and accomplish goals for the upcoming academic year.
