Inahkus founding members Craig Bates (bass) and Denys Fox (drums) met each other by having similar interest in music. The two of them started off by having regular practices together before they decided to get a guitarist in the band. The realization soon had set in that there could be a possibility for a band to arise out of this. They sought the help of a temporary guitarist that was a friend of the band, After a while things just weren?t satisfying the needs of the band, but this little discression didn?t disappoint them or act as a determent. Inahkus placed another add for a guitarist and was too be soon answered by former false estate member Shane Miller (guitars), things seem to immediately click and gel almost straight away.
Inahkus were starting to be recognized for their low tuning grindcore style of riffs. With Craig and Shane experimenting with small vocal tracks it was decided that they would require a permanent singer, so each member can concentrate on his own instrument. Through a good friend and strong supporter of the band they were put in contact with Mark Hillary (vocals), with his addition it added a new depth, and with his complicated lyrics and aggressive vocals.
Inahkus had been talking about adding a second guitarist to the band for some time now, and had talked about it with other people in the industry. Through a trust worthy source, they had been put in contact with Kiren (guitars). From the first time Inahkus jammed with Kiren at rehersal. Things seemed to gel straight away, with his years of experience and ability behind him, Inahkus has taken that one step further now. With a maturity of music arrangements there is nothing that should stop this quintet.
Recordings
At Cartoons Nightclub, Inahkus recorded their first live demo.
The experience was a new one but a very valuable one for the future reference.
There is video footage of Inahkus performing live at The Riff on the 16/7/99.
As it would be expected its a bit of a undescribed feeling to see yourself in
action on stage. The benefits of it, to see yourself performing live and to see
how the band can communicate with each other live.
In October of "99" Inahkus approached the person in charge of Satellite Studios
to work out a deal in recording our first c.d. single. A deal was reached and
the recording process had taken a huge effort by all, an exhausting 3 days of
strenuous effort and time. When the final result was achieved it had a professional
sound to it, but most of all we were all pleased with final product.
IN 2000, Inahkus entered into the Anguston Battle of the bands, which was won,
of course, by Inahkus. The prize was a free Demo E.P. recording, which was recorded
later in the year.
Radio stations
Various radio stations such as the likes of; 3d radio (Adelaide station)
Triple j
5ba
2bu (Salisbury local station)
All these radio stations have given Inahkus a generous amount of air play,
it all comes as a bit of a surprise to us with the lack of information that
we had provided to these stations. Inahkus have been strongly supported by a lot of the
metal or hard and heavy stations. To this day we still don't know how these stations
received the "suffering" single.
Inahkus vocalist Mark Hillary was granted an interview on 3d radio to talk
about on how Inahkus were started and what we are doing with the band now.
In the first week of the release with the "suffering" single it had debut
at no.14 on the top 20 charts.
