Elitist Snob

The Elitist (SNOB)
by LemmingofGlory

This page is adapted from the post here.

I decided that because of all of the D2 item types (rare, superior, unique, set, gem, etc.) the D2 SNOB would require subclasses. Simply having a SNOB that could use any of the special items (rare, unique, etc.) would be altogether too easy.

Please note that all snobs may use quest items (unique?) so that they can complete all of the quests!! I'd hate to see a SNOB get stuck somewhere because (s)he's unable to equip a certain item because it would defile his/her outfit. Using quest items for non-quest purposes is discussed later.

Also note that a non-socketed wirt leg is NOT unique nor is it quest. SNOBs shouldn't equip it unless they are a) gem snobs and it's socketed or b) rare snobs and it's imbued.

The gift rule returns to the D2 snob but it is a bit tweaked from D1.

-Presents:
As with the D1 SNOB, the D2 SNOB may recieve presents at certain times (considered gifts). The first gift is given at clvl 1. For more information on acceptable gifts, see the appropiate snob.

SNOB Subclasses

SNOB type 1- The Gem Stoner
This snob is bound to the use of socketed items. Any item types that do not come socketed (Boots, Gloves, Belts, Armors) are dealt with later. This snob uses socketed items (even without gems?) and seeks to pretty them up and show them off. Afterall, only the elite heroes run around with a whole suit of gemmed equipment. Any gem found by the SNOB may be used but gift gems and gems (other than chipped) from gem shrines must follow the below gem and clvl restriction. (This is to prevent people from scumming for gem shrines and actually getting them to PLAY :o]

Clvl 1 allows chipped gems.
Clvl 6 flawed.
Clvl 18 standard.
Clvl 24 flawless.
Clvl 30 perfect.

Gift should consist of 1 socketed item and 1 chipped gem. Gift-giving times are clvl 1 and after the completion of 2 quests. Gifts may consist of up to 2 clvl-appropiate gems. Clvl 1 is the only clvl that allows the giving of a socketed item.

Non-gemmable equipment is allowed if the item has a gem-stone enchantment name and has a perfect effect.

Skulls are not considered gems. They're pieces of a corpse. What kind of morbid person would use skulls in their weapons? (Your take, folks? Are skulls allowed to the Stoner?)

SNOB type 2- The Rare Snob
This snob uses rare equipment only. Gift may consist of 1 rare item. Imbued items are allowed.

SNOB type 3- The Unique Snob
This is the classic one! The true Elitist from D1! Only uniques for these Elitists (sets are NOT unique!). Gift may consist of 1 unique item. Question, folks. Can the unique snob use quest items when he's not on a quest? There are not enough quest items to make a subclass of Quest Item SNOB, so can this fellow use quest items (weapons in particular) or are they just too common? I don't have a problem with them using the item when it's needed, but what if they go back and get another Horadric Malus, for example, and want to use it?

SNOB type 4- The Set Snob
This SNOB uses set items, and has some special rules other than a simple "only sets."

1) If a complete set of items is available to you, you must use it. No elitist would mix 'n match if they already had a matching outfit!!!

2) You may mix 'n match as much as you like if you do not already have a complete set of items.

3) This was tricky for me. I had to decide "What if you have item spaces left and you're wearing a complete set?" I figured that it'd be socially unacceptable to mix brand names like that so I decided that the set snob may use uniques to fill in the empty spaces. These uniques, however, must have a common magical effect with the set items or the total set bonus.

Example: You use the Arctic Set. You have a vacant spot. You have a unique item that provides resist all that could fill that spot. The item is allowed because Arctic Furs has resist all.

SNOB type 5- Superior SNOB
This snob uses only Superior items. This may be a combination of a Barbarian and a SNOB, but with less restrictive skills. No bday gifts may be recieved.

SNOB Skills

Remember:
"SNOBS go for: highest 'form' of a given spell 'type', and NONE that all the masses use." -Charis

Also remember that while the SNOBs perfer the above way, some things are just too basic to leave out. (That's why D1 SNOB could use TP, Heal, HO, and other extremely common spells.)

Set Item Elitist (detailed)

This SNOB specializes in the use of Set Items, but other types of items may be worn in certain circumstances The Set SNOB's goal is to wear an entire set of items made by 1 of the 16 prominent Sanctuary fashion designers. These are the 16 (and their clvl requirements): Arctic (2), Berserker (3), Civerb (9), Cathan (11),  Angelic (12), Arcanna (15), Cleglaw (4), Death (6), Hsaru (3), Infernal Tools (5), Iratha (15), Isenhart (8), Milabrega (17), Sigon (6), Tancred (20), and Vidala (14). There are two categories that a Set SNOB falls into.

Category 1: No Designer Chosen
This is a time when the SNOB lacks a full set. During this time, ANY set item may be worn.

Category 2: SNOB by Design
This is a time when the SNOB possesses (and is able to use) a full set of a particular designer's items. The SNOB must wear the set and may only take it off at death or to switch to another designer. Switching outfits from one designer to another is allowed. However, once a SNOB possesses a full set (s)he may no longer wear other designer's items with that set. (Clarity: If you wear a full set, you can't use items that are not of that set. 3 exceptinons are noted below, however.) It is at this time that the SNOB chooses to accessorize his/her outfit.

No full set will plug up all of the wearable item slots. For this reason, a SNOB wearing a full set may accessorize his/her outfit by wearing unique accessories from non-designers. (Clarity: If a full set is worn, Set SNOB may use unique items in the slots not occupied by his/her current designer's items.

For example, Milabrega's outfit takes up the Head, Body, and both Hands; this leaves 3 items of jewelry, a belt, boots, and gloves. Thus, since the Set SNOB is wearing Milabrega's (s)he may equip 3 unique jewels, a unique belt, boots, and gloves.)

There are 3 situations in which a Set SNOB in possession of a full set may wear items from more than 1 designer. This is perfectly allowed because the two sets may be worn simultaneously. Please note that to wear two designer outfits at once both must be completed outfits. Any spaces left over by these outfits may be filled in with uniques as normally would be allowed. For convenience, the left-over spaces are noted below.

#1 Berserker's and Hsaru's outfits may be used simultaneously by any class. (Remaining slots: 3 Jewelry slots and Gloves.)

#2 Berserker's and Death's outfits may be used simultaneously by the Barbarian. (Remaining slots: 3 Jewelry slots and Boots.)

#3 Tancred's and Death's outfits may be used simultaneously by the Barbarian. (Barbarian is specified here because dual-weilding would be necessary in order to equip the last 2 sets.) (Remaining slots: 2 Rings.)

#4 Angelic and Hsaru's outfits may be used simultaneously by any class. (Remaining slots: 1 Ring and Gloves.)

Birthdays
On a 1st Birthday, if the Set SNOB is a Category 1 (s)he may recieve 1 set item and 1 unique weapon. (This is to allow early use of a weapon since many sets that include weapons have steep clvl requirements.)
On subsequent Birthdays, if the Set SNOB is still a Category 1 (s)he may recieve 1 set item OR a replacement unique weapon.
On a Birthday, if the Set SNOB is a Category 2 (s)he may recieve either 1 unique item OR 1 set item.

The items recieved do NOT have to be useable at the time of the gifting. This way you could start collecting bits and pieces of, say, Tancred's set in Normal Act 1 even though you can't use it yet. With enough Bdays, you can collect the whole set and only need clvls/stats to use it!

Disagreements? Comments? Offers to throw me off of a building? You know where to post 'em!
