STORY:

Mexico, 1501 AD. The great Aztec Empire has peaked, and its people have settled into a state of blissful apathy and decadence, much to the chagrin of certain fanatics and warmongers who would welcome a return to the old death-and-glory days, and aren't too fussed about how they get it.

A series of brutal murders have recently been committed in the capital, which the official authorities have proven powerless to investigate. Blocked in his efforts, the commander of the city watch suspects that the murderer is high-placed, but cannot act on his suspicions alone. That is where you come in...

Calatzin's lot has not been a happy one. A peasant by birth, she lost her mother to a plague outbreak, both her brothers after they were conscripted into one of the emperor's less successful campaigns, and her father to despair, drink, recklessness, and eventual suicide. Sold into slavery to clear her father's debts, she was for a time subject to the cruel whims of a high-ranking warrior, who - as luck would have it - was also a frequent partaker of bribes and trader of official secrets, who gravely underestimated her powers of observation. After a year spent patiently amassing evidence against him, her service was brought to a grim but satisfactory conclusion (as her erstwhile employer was brought to the gallows). She has since scraped a living in the provincial cities of the Empire, investigating crime and corruption among the ruling caste. Her healthy hatred of them, in addition to her natural agility and keenness, has made her highly successful in this vocation, earning her the nickname "The Obsidian Eye".

Unable to investigate the recent murders in person, the commander of the watch has summoned Calatzin to the capital, knowing that she will not want to pass up the chance to investigate a crime that could well end in the arrest and brutal punishment of exceedingly high-ranking perpetrators. These links contains all the setup files, sound files, and the instruction file (in MS Word .doc format) for the game, in compressed ("zipped") state. Unzip all the files into a single folder (call it "Obseye", and locate it directly on your c:\ drive). Click on the monitor-shaped "setup" icon to load the game. It will suggest installing to your "Program Files", but you may change this if you wish. After installation, a new icon "Obseye" will appear in your "Start" button menu.
