   THIS BIKE WAS ACQUIRED IN A TRADE INVOLVING SEVERAL OTHER BIKES IN EXCHANGE FOR A CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. AT THE TIME, IT WAS JUST A YAMAHA YDS3 CATALINA 250 FRAME & WHEELS WITH A GRAND PRIX FAIRING, GAS TANK & SEAT. I PURCHASED A DS6 BIG BEAR 250 ENGINE AND EXHAUST PIPES, AND PUT THE WHOLE MESS TOGETHER INTO WHAT YOU SEE. USING A LITTLE INGENUITY AND AN ARC WELDER, I INVERTED THE ORIGINAL FOOT CONTROLS INTO A REAR-SET POSITION WITH NO MAJOR MODIFICATION.

   THIS BIKE HAS BEEN OWNED PREVIOUSLY BY TWO OF MY BROTHERS. MY OLDER BROTHER BOUGHT IT NEW AT KASSON YAMAHA IN AUSTIN, TX IN 1976 AND SOLD IT TO MY YOUNGER BROTHER A FEW YEARS LATER. WHILE HE OWNED IT, WE INSTALLED EXPANSION CHAMBERS AND AN ELECTRONIC IGNITION, AND PAINTED IT BLUE. I BOUGHT IT FROM HIM, RODE IT A WHILE, PAINTED IT WHITE, THEN SOLD IT TO A FRIEND WHO LET IT SIT FOR MANY YEARS. I RE-PURCHASED THE BIKE IN 1990, REPLACED THE (FAILED) ELECTRONIC IGNITION WITH ORIGINAL POINTS, AND INSTALLED THE FLAT SLIDE MIKUNI CARBURATORS. I ALSO HAD THE SEAT RE-COVERED.
