Sexing |
 |
Previously it was thought to be nearly impossible to sex your crab however now it has been discovered that with a willing crab(and most are) and an owner with a well trained eye it can be found out without much fuss. To sex the crab you need to get a good look underneath it. The easiest way to do this is to place the crab in a see through container so you can hold it up and look under without causing the crab any distress. Once you have your crab in the container look underneath at the crabs legs. Now look at the set of legs that are closest to the shell. Once you know what two legs your looking at look at the segment thats closest to the crabs body. If two black dots are present then you have a female. These dots are holes where the male mates with the female. To see a picture of a clearly female crab then go here. There are also instructions on this website that will help you find out your crabs sex. NOTE: Please take into account not all crabs are willing to come far enough out of their shells to have the area your looking for exposed and in open view. If your crab prefers to stay a little more inside the shell then just forget about sexing as to try and pull a crab from its shell would be to slaughter it. Males are no different from females in any real way so just decide what you want the crab to be if thats the case ;)
