VG Valiant Pacer 2 door coupe front quarter
Combine the body shells of Dodge Dart (1967-1970) (imported CKD?) and
Australian Valiant front end panels and mechanicals and market well! These two
door coupes were launched in a (valiant?) attempt to cash in for the demand for
hardtops that finally took off in Australia in the late 1960s due to the success
of the Holden Monaro. At around the same
time Plymouth in the USA also jumped on the hardtop coupe bandwagon with
the Valiant Scamp using Dart shells too.
Note the use of rectangular headlights half a decade before becoming available
to US makers. Luxury trimmed Regal and Regal 770 models were also
available, in fact the Pacer was a later addition to the range.

I never liked these cars at the time (so boxy) but their "extruded"
style has grown on me over the years. The coupes' wheelbase were the same as all
1967-9 Darts, three inches longer than the 108" of Valiant sedans
(and wagons and utes in Australia).

Complex concave rear window is supposedly front screen turned inside out! Tail
styling is not surprisingly identical to the US models right down to the
taillights - bright colour scheme however was probably bolder than those offered
to the Americans by this stage (Barracuda, Duster and Demon had taken the place
of the hardtop as sedan based sporty car).
