Mazda 626 2 door coupe front quarterJapanese models had a different front panel and bonnet with a lowered central section. I also think this car's black detailing may not have been original.

Although less visible than it could be due to the large plastic louver fitted on
this car the coupe had a more wrapped rear screen and the C pillars were more
forward slanted; howevr the basic body design is unchanged from then sedans.

Still known as Capella in Japan I believe, the 626 name was used
from this model onwards on other markets (I believe the previous model was
codenamed 616?). Mazda moved to numeric names thereby emphasising the
marque name over models; since the early '90s this policy has been slowly
reversed (Datsun had done this too in the 70's and 80's).

Not much variation visible from this view between the sedan and coupe;
interestingly the rare 1st generation RX7 convertibles reputedly used the boot
lid of these cars!

Confined only to revisions to the bumper and the stationary panel forward of the
bonnet this was a fairly minor update to bring it inline with the Familia/323/GLC
models. The grille now stretches unbroken between the headlights and though not
so visible here vertical bars are more pronounced than before.

Similarly the bootlid edge now runs straight across and the bumper is different.
Tailights are much bigger (deeper and wrap into the number plate cove) than the
previous model, though whether the underlying metal changed I don't know.
Side protection strip is also deeper.
