A variant on the Australian designed and produced XA Falcons, the coupe combined elements of both 1970-1 & 1972-4 US Ford Torino hardtop coupes, in a more manageable size.

This revised front design, smacking of the 1971-3 Mustangs, was a reaction to criticism of the 'soft' nose design of the XA. Near flush fitting rear tailights were fitted in the same metalwork as the XA model.

A further revision added larger bumpers and a squarer more upright grille. Few other stylistic changes happened as the future of the model (discontinuation) was likely already decided by now.
