Gabriela Spanic (played
by Guadalupe Santos) is the woman who has spent the past 13 years in jail but in fact she
is the good girl/heroine of the story. After escaping jail (she was going to be pardoned
anyway!) the story settles into a conventional soap storyline of family tensions, hidden
secrets and mistaken motives. The real interesting bit of the soap for GM fans is
the introduction of Lulu Ríobueno (Diana Quijano). Having bumped off her husband she is
the driving malevolent force in the family environment and begins scheming to gain more
wealth.
Further into the series we see Lulu poisoning and tormenting her mother in law but when this fails she takes up a gun and starts shooting people. The change is rather radical but given the precise character definition given to all the roles (and the good acting skills of Ms Quijano) the change is not unbelievable. It is fairly obvious that Lulu is a few straws short of a haystack and the leap of her character into full blown murderess is easy to accept. Eventually all her bad ways come to the attention of the police and she is caught in one of her acts of murder.
However, like all the best evil lady driven
soaps, Lulu is not the only bad girl in the drama. We also have the one eyed character
Tuerta (Marisela Gonzalez) who was a rival of Gabriela in her jailbird
days. Here is another woman with a huge grudge against Gabriela. Once incarcerated
with Lulu it is only a matter of time before they join forces and escape from jail. Once
on the outside Lulu, Tuerta and her gang of female bank robbers and other miscreants
embark on a crime spree of bank robbery, murder and kidnap.
Like one of the other soaps on this page it really is impossible to give this series justice in one article. However I have to try. In the latter stages of the series Lulu, Tuerta and her gang are involved in more crime and mayhem. However it is Lulu who is the real star for FF fans. She has numerous shoot outs with police, ex-lovers as well as engaging in long and sustained murder attempts against her former friends and family. Like Ramola Sikand in KKR Lulu is a character who is utterly ruthless and irredeemable. Here are a few brief screen captures of her best moments.
When Prisionera finally reached the end of
its run after some 120-150 episodes the Lulu crime count couldn't be measured. Probably
her best scenes were saved for the final few episodes. By this time the rest of the bad
girls had been rounded up and Lulu was on the run. However she still had a few tricks up
her sleeve. She picks up a few more guns to aid her in her final plot (killing her gun
supplier with a gun she was examining!) and then went out to take her final revenge on
Gabriela. Once again Lulu is involved in a furious shoot out with one of her ex-lovers and
though he is mortally wounded he manages to take Lulu with him. This woman really did go
out all guns blazing.
That's it. The number of screencaps here is very small compared to those available so expect to see more screencaps in future articles.
