Daylight Robbery 2.

Some of you may remember the article on 'Daylight Robbery' a  UK produced drama about a group of women who take to armed robbery for various reasons. A couple of years ago there was a sequel imaginatively called 'Daylight Robbery 2'. Here are some details.

The original 'Daylight Robbery' was a fanciful TV show and at the end of the series our bank robbing lasses appeared to have reached the end of their criminal careers as their final robbery went badly wrong. But there is no way a small detail like that is going to stop a second series if viewing figures demand it. As it turns out the chief criminal, played once again by UK TV star Michelle Collins, has escaped to Miami where she is living a life in the sun with her son.

However, life takes a turn for the worse when her maid (the delightful Sharon Quintero) steals the proceeds of her ill gotten gains. A robbery to replenish it from the local Mafia family turns out to be a foolish idea when they discover what she has done and she is soon being pursued by a Mafia hitman. So, she returns to the UK and decides the only way she can get out of the mess is to repay the money by committing a few armed robberies with help from her ex-colleagues. One is working as an au pair played, as in the first series, by Emily Woof complete this time with dodgy East European accent. However she is arrested and taken to prison but springing her from a prison van is no problem for our Michelle.

Eventually they are joined by a fellow jailbird freed during the prison van holdup and the employer of the au pair (Beth Goddard) who has terminal cancer and decides armed robbery is how she wants to end her life! The big plan goes ahead and they hijack a van to use it as cover for a raid on a branch of the UK mint.

After a couple of hitches when it looks like their getaway driver has gone AWOL it looks like they've got away with it. However it turns out the fellow jailbird is really an undercover cop and the Mafia hitman who has been menacing them throughout has taken Michelle's son hostage at school. All this leads to a rather tame finale.

Reading this you'll probably dismiss the whole thing as sheer hokum and you'd be absolutely right. However if you let the whole thing wash over you without worrying about the plot absurdities there's a lot worse ways of spending a few hours than seeing good ol' Michelle playing Cindy Beale from Eastenders as an armed bank robber (UK soap fans will know what I mean).
