December 10, 2003
Again, Christmas has arrived early, with new links and some new stuff at Download Central. My apologies for going so long since the last update. The fourth quarter is the busiest of the year. Maybe I should consider a web staff for 2004.

Happy Holidays from the Game Show Warehouse.

Black background again. It's not because I called the World Series wrong for the third straight year (I picked the Yankees in four). It's not because the school I've been working for this year and my alma mater (two different schools, BTW) both saw their playoff hopes dashed with final-week losses. It's partially because of the lives lost in the California wildfires, but it's mostly because of the loss of Rod Roddy. I was never as big a fan of The Price is Right as most of the online community, but I loved Press Your Luck, and I admit it, I watched Whew! and Hit Man during their short network runs and I remember him from those.

Here's to you, O Illustrious One.

The fourth quarter has arrived, and the biggest news is at Download Central. Lingo is ready to go, Whammy! v2.0 is ready for beta-testing, and the new project has been announced. Stay tuned. Football update: The JVs and varsity teams are both 3-2, and neither team has been able to put together a streak of any kind!

How about those Cubbies?

September 19, 2003
My JV team is now 2-2 after getting trounced at home 56-12. Now the varsity team goes on the road tonight seeking revenge--against the conference's top-ranked team. Worse case scenario, they'd be .500 too, but in the NFL a matchup like this just screams "upset special".

In site news, I rarely think to make edits to previously published materials, but several typos have been fixed in the last IIJM... column. I even added a statement. One last thing that proves this site doesn't get a lot of traffic: no one caught the accidentally-newly-created word "stratch" in this spot last month.

August 29, 2003
Earlier I mentioned two new competiting dramas in the Friday at 8:00 slot. I know what I'll be watching on Friday nights--the same thing I watch every Friday. That's right, absolutely nothing! I took a temporary position with a local high school, filming junior varsity games and keeping stats for the varsity. For the record, both teams are now 1-0 after each posted a shutout win. One thing's for certain: now I see firsthand why Friday has not been a good night for television ratings in recent seasons.

Speaking of past writings, Maybe It's Just Me... starts its third year by catching up on words I'm now eating. And speaking of football, I put my credibility on the line again by predicting the unpredictable NFL. Over at Download Central, two rebuilt programs are now ready for relaunch. Maybe there is something to be said for starting from scratch.

Released bulletin after my system crashed

August 10, 2003
I had a blast at my ten-year reunion yesterday. We had a better turnout than I anticipated, and there were not only a lot of people I hadn't seen since graduation, but there were also a few I never ran across much during my upperclassman years! There was a lot to catch up on.

In site news, Is it just me... celebrates its second anniversary with the second half of the fall season prime time preview. Looks like the networks are trying to reclaim Friday, but Saturday...why even bother? The FAQ and links pages have been worked on as well.

Big news at the GSW. Particularly, at the Whammy Warehouse. I now have screen captures! Since I do not have screen capture software, I make my caps the old-fashoined way: I point a digital camera at the TV screen. It's not a perfect solution, but it's a solution.

It's hard to believe summer's already on the decline. In my area, it's been cooler than normal, so in a way it feels like it's already already fall. To give it even more perspective, the NFL preseason has already begun and the new fall TV season begins in less than seven weeks. To the extent of the latter, I'm in the process of dissecting the fall schedules right now, and my reviews of the Monday through Wednesday schedules are in the latest edition of Is it just me...

One final note: my ten-year class reunion is this Saturday. Where did the years go?

July 18, 2003
About time. Whammy! is finally out, but it grew so large I had to find another web provider with a higher file limit. It had to happen eventually. But it's here just in time for the Tournament of Champions next week! On this occasion, the Whammy Warehouse is now open.

Speaking of Press Your Luck, I got an e-mail a couple of weeks ago from Brian Dominy, the programmer behind the original GameControl that served as the basis for mine. He hasn't disappered completely; in fact, he now has a mouse-driven Java version of PYL. Look for it in the Links section.

Another half-year, another list of risers. However, pickings were slim this year. Find out who made the cut in the latest Is It Just Me... column. Also, this fall marks the 20th anniversary of the Whammy as we know it. To celebrate, construction of a new wing to the Warehouse is underway. Stay tuned...

Just because I'm unemployed, a lot of you might be thinking I have no excuse not to spend more time on updating the website. Well, I do have an excuse. Remember, I update "whenever I feel like it", and with the job market as it is, I'm planning to take it easy this summer--at least until an opening comes up. In the meantime, I've added another title to my list of hypothetical revivals.

June 4, 2003
Yesterday was National Murphy's Law Day. Find out how it affected me in the latest Is it Just Me... column. I won't even get into how I didn't expect much from American Juniors (and that's what I got).

May 25, 2003
My parting words in the last update alluded to the Detroit Pistons and Clay Aiken. There's a combination you won't find on any other website, right? Anyway, The Pistons did hang around since I wrote what I did, but they finally slipped through the net (the New Jersey Nets, that is).

As for Clay, as much as my mother was rooting for him and even though I thought he should win, I did predict that Ruben Studdard will win and he did. Sure, the big guy from the 205 showed signs of wear (like Josh and Carmen before them, and Julia right from the get-go), but he's got the package (and a big fan base). But in the end, they both won, as both men got record deals, and both drop their debut singles in June. Ruben may have won the "battle", but the "war" is about to begin. Stay tuned.

Finally, my pick for the Stanley Cup final: Devils in five. Meanwhile, check out a couple of new links.

April 30, 2003
So the link was the problem. Membership for the Preferred Browsers Club has skyrocketed since I fixed that link. This is one the benefits of begins a Preferred Browser: the Season 2 version of Whammy! GameControl is ready for beta-testing and selected members will receive a beta copy. I'll put it up at Download Central when enough of them tell me it's ready. In the meantime, check out the new Is it just me... column.

Well, with the Red Wings gone and the Pistons all but gone, I've get no one left to root for...except maybe Clay Aiken.

April 13, 2003
So far, the Preferred Browsers Club has attracted only two members. However, I think I found the reason for the disappointing turnout: the link to the PBC page points to the FAQ. Updates to the FAQ and links page are long overdue, too. Maybe we webmasters should look at our own pages on occasion. (Some do that just to beef up their hit counters, but I don't have one, so what's my excuse?)

As is the case with the Card Sharks episode guide, I still plan to leave the Trivia Trap site up for historical purposes. Naturally, the Blockbusters page is still active, but even though Game Show Network is currently on March 1981, I am taking a premature leap ahead to 1982. Also, just last month I heard from Marge Moore, who appeared on the series finale.

Finally, I stated that I'd would have a link to the game shows discussion forum at ezBoard, but I never got around to it. The truth is, it's too late to put one up now, since we're planning to find a new home by July 1.

March 13, 2003
Call off the search parties. After 41 days, I finally got around to updating this site. Part of the explanation on where I've been is part of the new Is it just me... column. Also, musings about American Idol, Let's Make a Deal, and what will soon pass for "small" drinks.

January 31, 2003
Everything has its trends. On TV, it's low-cost (and low-brow) reality; on the Internet, it's game show episode guides. In fact, last night I discovered more Trivia Trap and Blockbusters guides! And they're updated more frequently than mine. And looking at the new BB page, Steve Beverly could easily be on my case for excluding last names. J I'll still update mine whenever I feel like it, but I hear that my other guide won't be collecting dust for long...

With all these episode guides out there I added a new subsection to the links page. There's also a link to the EZBoard game show forum, which I hope to join soon. And watch for a new feature in February.

January 23, 2003
Well, it finally happened. I got sucked into American Idol this week. I've been told that the audition shows are the most entertaining part because of all the bad acts--and boy, were there plenty. Chuck Barris would have had a field day with them. But so far we've had, by my count, 156 Kelly/Justin-wannabes who made the first cut with two more audition sites to go.

As I stated, I plan to keep my Card Sharks episode guide on my site, but now I've started two more, for new GSN additions Blockbusters and Trivia Trap.

January 5, 2003
Save for the logo at the top of this page, I've never implemented graphics on this site, but now I have finally added screen shots of all games to the Download Central page. Also, new for 2003, Download Central will be my secondary site. Updates to that page have always warranted updates to this page, but I'll be operating these pages separately.

Also new for 2003, I'm giving you an opportunity to get in on updates to both sites. Click on the Preferred Browser link below for details.

And now, back to the Game Show Warehouse
