Leslie Nielson
Although his career stretches back half a century and includes over 100 films and countless TV programs, Leslie Nielsen gained true fame late in his career, when he starred in a series of comic spoofs beginning with 1980's Airplane!. Brother was a high ranking Canadian politician. Eric Nielsen was the Government Leader of the Yukon Territory before becoming a Member of Parliment and the Deputy Prime Minister of Canada. Nephew of the late actor Jean Hersholt. While in Winnipeg, Canada to promote their movie MEN WITH BROOMS, Leslie Nielsen and fellow co-star Paul Gross received Honorary Citizenships from Winnipeg Mayor Glen Murray at the Granite Curling Club. Made a screen test for the part of Messala in BEN-HUR (1959), part of which can be seen in the documentary BEN-HUR : THE MAKING OF AN EPIC. Leslie Nielson was born in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. Was nominated MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss in 1992 for THE NAKED GUN 2 1/2: THE SMELL OF FEAR. (shared with Priscilla Presley)
