I suppose the simple answer is practice makes perfect. Forgiveness is like any spiritual practice - the more you do it the easier it becomes.
Speaking personally, I used to be extremely judgemental & unforgiving. However, over the past few years I have found that the more I meditate the less inclined I am to hold grudges or to judge people.
The old adage is spot on (which is why it's so well known): To err is human; to forgive is divine.
