Lita's Past - Chapter 3
The first week passed fairly quickly,
and during a couple of days of that first week the tickets arrived. Everyone was
excited and I gave the first three tickets to my friends and told them to keep
them in a good place where they won’t be forgotten. My friends agreed. I kept
busy over the next few days, busily trying to figure out what to wear.
Hmmmm...... I could go with my blue shirt and black skirt, or I could go with my
blue mini skirt and white shirt. Nah, that will look to much like a school
uniform. Choices, Choices. To help me in my decisions I went over to Serenity’s
house and we tried on clothes while listening to my Digimon cd, we sang along as
we studied each other, and tried on each others clothes. I had brought over a
couple of outfits for Serenity in a paper bag. My mom was there and she kept
liking each and every outfit that I tried on. But with the concert closing in, I
was getting nervous. I wanted to impress Yugi, Serenity had already chosen her
outfit and was busy studying her self in the mirror, turning this way and that.
“I bet Yugi will love you in anything that you have on Lita.” she said.
I let out an exasperated sigh, Serenity clearly had no idea what it was like
having a boyfriend, I wanted Yugi and make him see me in a totally different
light. I told Serenity and mom so.
“But he already does see you in a different light.” mom said. Serenity agreed.
Finally after another hour of trying on clothes I finally picked my outfit: a
burgundy top that was a little low-cut plus a navy blue skirt, with my heart
shaped earrings and a jade necklace.
“Yugi will love you in that.” said mom. I looked at myself in the mirror, I did
look nice, then I cocked my head.
“Now what to do with my hair?” For the next hour or so we figured out what was
the best hair style for the outfit.
As I swept the temple, I was giddy with excitement and I began to sing “My
future” from my digimon cd, and I began to dance. I glanced up and saw a couple
of people near the front of the temple looking at the various charms and
bracelets, I walked over to them to see if they needed any help. After that I
watered the trees and helped out a few more customers, marked off my calender
till the days of the concert and prayed that everything would go well. Seeing
that there was a lull in activity I went over to my backpack which was against
the wall near a cherry tree, opened it , took out my math homework, sat down and
began to work away. Every once and a while I would glance up to see if there
were any people around. I really liked working outside, in the fresh air, that
why I liked working at the temple. I still got odd looks now and then and the
customers would only talk to me only about the charms and bracelets but I was
used to it. My thoughts went to Yugi and his friends, I got that warm feeling
once again. I was glad that they accepted me and didn’t view me as a freak.
After solving a few more problems I went back to work. I had only laid out the
newest batch of charms when I heard 2 girls talking.
“Did you hear the news? That freaky girl over there has a boyfriend.”
“Really? Huh who is it?”
“Its Yugi Moto.”
“The King of Games? No way! Why would he fall for her? She’s got those powers of
hers.”
“You know what I think? I think that she must have cast some sort of spell on
him to make him love her.”
“How pathetic, only freaks like her would be that desperate enough to put spells
on people to get someone to like them. I wonder if she has any friends?”
The first girl snorted.
“Who would want to be friends with a weirdo like her.”
I heard enough, I turned away from the counter and rushed out of the temple into
the courtyard. I walked over to a tree and sat down. I remembered how people
started to look at me differently around the time I started on my travels to
become a Pokemon Master. I was just starting out, and I was really happy to be
out on my own for once, I also dreamt of being a World Champion and making my
family proud. On my travels I met up with 3 other trainers and we all hit it off
immediately. I was happy that I wasn’t going to be traveling alone for very
long. A couple of weeks had passed and that was when the premonitions started.
I kept having these dreams where my new found friends and I would run into a
bunch of hoodlums who stole Pokemon cards from anyone that crossed their path,
the next morning my friends suggested that we take a shortcut through some woods
to reach the other side. In my dream, the thugs were on the other side of the
shortcut! I tried to convince my friends that there were plenty of trainers
taking the long way around.
“We could get a lot of good training in, and meet up with some people going our
way.”
But my friends only protested, saying that the long way would waste an entire
day, besides we needed to get more supplies and the shortcut also led into a
town that was nearby. All of my pleadings fell on deaf ears, we ended up taking
the short cut.
The thugs jumped us, grabed my friends and took their cards, and beat them. A
couple of my friends fought back but they all ended up with bloody noses. I
tried my best to help out but ended up being grabbed, luckily I knew a few
martial arts moves and defended myself. My friends and I ended up chasing the
thugs into town, and cornering them, but they had friends who were waiting for
us. Luckily a few cops were there and the thugs were grabbed, arrested and my
friends cards were given back to them. After we had hit the road once agin, my
friends apologized for not listening to me, and one of them asked me how I had
known about the thugs. I lied and told them that I had heard a rumor about
them. My friends had never heard of the rumor and they had been on travel a lot
longer that I have. We continued to walk on. The next couple of weeks were nerve
racking for me since I kept having the premonitions about my friends either
losing a duel to another trainer or a gym leader, I thought that they wouldn’t
even suspect a thing if I gave them some advice here and there. But they did
when we came to a bridge that didn’t look too safe. My friends thought that it
looked safe enough and started to cross it when I stopped them begging them not
to. When they asked what my deal was, I told them that the bridge didn’t look
safe.
“You’re tripping, it looks safe enough to me.” said one, and he started to
cross.
“Wait, don’t! The bridge will collapse in the middle!” I shouted.
“How do you know that?” asked the boy.
I faltered and I said that it was just a hunch.
“You seemed to be getting a lot of hunches lately.” another girl said.
I gave them a shaky smile. I didn’t like they way they were starting to look at
me. The first boy had already made it to the other side, and I was staring at
him.
Could my dream have been wrong?
The boy who made it across, waved to the rest of us to cross the bridge, one by
one my friends stepped onto the bridge, and made it across until it was just me
and the girl Tarra.
She started to go across when a picture suddenly flashed into my head. It was of
Tarra and she was yelling me accusing my of setting up all of the obstacles that
we had to get through in order to reach our destinations, then another one came
up, she was falling!
I was brought back to the present, I realized to my horror that Tarra was in the
middle of the bridge!
“No! Tarra come back!” I screamed, I darted on to the bridge and was just in
time to see the boards underneath her feet give away! I tried to grab her hand,
but it was to late! She was already falling. Me and my friends frantically tried
to think of what to do, finally 2 of them ran off to the nearest town to get
help while had already made it to the other side of the bridge and I climbed
down the side of the cliff to get to Tarra. I found her at the bottom and
luckily she was still alive! Paramedics came during the night and took all of us
to the hospital. My friends explained what had happened, Tara only had a few
broken bones but she would heal as long as she got some rest, we stayed at the
hospital for a couple of weeks losing a lot of training time but none of us
really cared. Finally after the fifth week Tarra was up and walking around and
she began to ask questions about how I had managed to get them out of the most
toughest scraps and avoid groups of thugs that stole cards and beat up kids,
thugs that they never even heard of until we came to parts of town in which we
either had to go through to get more supplies or beat a Gym leader.. Tarra was
staring at me with an unfriendly look on her face, and then after a moments
thought she accused me of setting up all those traps! I denied it, saying
that............um............. my hunches helped me out.
“Hunches my foot, those were traps that you set up yourself, only you knew that
we would start suspecting you if those traps really did get us, so you changed
your plans and ended up warning us about them.”
“That is not true!” I yelled, but they all pointed out the evidence against me,
finally I told them that I was psychic that I had premonitions that showed me
the future, the premonitions showed us how to get past all of the traps. They
all stared at me. Finally one boy said that he knew that there was something
weird about me. He told the others how he had been awaken one night by chanting,
and he saw me sitting in front of a fire asking the spirits whether or not there
was danger ahead. He had seen the fire roar up and then seen pictures of the
traps.
“What were you doing anyway?”
“ Keeping all of us safe.”
I further explained how sometimes the premonitions I received most of the time
were right.
“Most of the time?” Tarra asked.
“Some of them turn out to be false alarms.”
“Well what about what happened to me?” she asked.
“Well when I first got the premonition, I saw Terry fall into the chasm.” I
pointed toward the first boy that made it across the bridge. “It must have been
one of those premonitions where you see one thing but it means a totally
different thing.”
“What about those other times? Like the time we all climbed onto that cliff
when you said that if we crossed the river something bad was going to happen.”
said Gary.
“Yeah, and we ended up nearly falling to our deaths if that hiker hadn’t come
by.” said Steven.
“Look I trust my premonitions but I also trust my instincts, and I’m sorry that
we almost got killed those couple of times, but let’s just put that behind us
alright? Tarra you’re almost well, you’ll still be able to battle and we are out
of danger.”
“Yeah, for now.” Garry muttered, I glanced at him.
Steven finally said that all of us were tired, we should all get some sleep. We
all agreed, then everyone went to their rooms and got ready for bed.
