Chapter 2 - The Invitation
“And now I activate
Polymerization to fuse my Gazelle and my Berfomet into Chimera, the flying
mythical beast!”
Yugi placed his Polymerization into
the graveyard and slapped his Chimera onto his duel disk. The horrific hologram
formed in front of him. The crowd gasped at what they saw appear, and stared at
it as if hypnotised. The beast appeared as a lion, but its tail extended longer
than usual, and a snake’s head was fastened to the end of it. Feathery white
wings like those of an eagle spread out from its back, and it let out a growl
at Téa.
“That doesn’t look very scary,”
yelled a voice from behind the crowd. It cleared to reveal a small boy standing
barefoot on the road. “More like a six foot turkey.”
“Oh really,” Yugi replied. He
stepped over towards the boy leaving the holographic monster. He took the boy
by the arms and led him towards the hologram, placing him in front of him.
“Imagine that this ‘six foot turkey’
was real right now,” he said. “You stare at him and he stares right back.
Chimera would be quite vicious, so then the attack would come.”
Yugi knelt down and pointed at the
hologram’s foot nails.
“He slashes at you with these, in a
vertical movement down your stomach, immediately ripping apart your torso and
spilling your intestines. Then he’ll probably sink his teeth into you or what’s
left of you. You may still be alive at this point but you will most probably be
dead. And trust me, you will really want it to be the second one.”
Yugi walked away, deactivating his
duel disk and leaving the kid horrified, clutching his chest. Téa followed
Yugi, running behind him.
As Yugi and Téa advanced back
towards the Game shop, ending the training for today, they were greeted by
Yugi’s grandfather, panting towards them from the park across the street.
“Yugi, you need me to let you in,”
he shouted. It sounded more like loud whispering due to his old age. Yugi
seemed puzzled. His grandpa hardly ever left the house whilst he was training.
He placed his hand onto his thick, golden necklace and breathed the fresh air.
He gradually became smaller, appearing weaker. His hair seemed to be growing
backwards, becoming shorter by the second. Even his clothes shrunk. The only
thing that didn’t change was his Millennium Puzzle which he was clasping in his
hand. He let go and it dangled from his neck, quickly emitting a yellow glow
before fading back into an ordinary necklace.
“Grandpa, why did you leave?” Yugi
asked suspiciously. His grandpa fiddled through his house keys trying to find
the right one.
“I needed to run some errands,” he
replied, stuffing the key into the lock. “Author was telling me about this new
amusement park, and Rebecca had gone along to check it…”
Grandpa stopped at the shock of what
greeted him as he opened the door. Papers were littered across the floor, and
some blueprints were laid out on the shop counter. The kitchen door was wide
open, and they could hear rustling from inside. Cautiously they made their way
towards the kitchen, being extremely careful to not make a peep. When they
reached the door, Grandpa took a deep breath and walked in.
Yugi and Téa looked from behind
Grandpa and they saw a man searching through the fridge. Yet more planning
sheets were on the kitchen table, but they didn’t care about that at that
moment. Then the man backed out of the fridge, closed the fridge door and
turned to face them.
“Kaiba!” Yugi screamed. Kaiba let
the cork out of the bottle of wine he held and it flew behind them and into the
shop.
“We were saving that wine!” yelled
Grandpa.
“For today,” Kaiba replied calmly,
“I guarantee it.” He chuckled to himself. “Yugi, it’s not in my best interest
to be in a dump like this, but you do seem to have good beverages. I’ve come
here to discuss a business settlement between us. I don’t like to hang around,
so let’s get right to the point. A KaibaLand amusement park has finally been
built and we need a few people to come along and tell me what you think of the
attractions.”
“What do you want us for, Kaiba?”
Téa questioned angrily. “Probably to test out the more dangerous rides!”
“No, no,” Kaiba continued. “There
are no rides, only attractions. I have waited 10 years for my dream to come
true and now it has. KaibaLand theme park is the greatest thing that has
happened to this city since I became president of KaibaCorp. I want you to be
one of the few to test it out on a complementary pass.”
“Who are you and what have you done
with Kaiba?” Téa rhetorically asked.
“You don’t get it do you? We have
spared no expense in building and funding this park, and now I am offering you
the trip of a lifetime.” Kaiba suddenly became a lot more serious. “No one will
visit this park unless approved by the King of Games. That’s why I need…want
you to try out this park and when all is done we WILL duel again. Until then,
you have to be a part of it.”
“Kaiba you must be out of your
mind!” Yugi yelled. “What kind of park is this?”
“It’s right up your alley, and I can
compensate with fulfilment of anything you ask.”
“Okay, this is what I’ll what I’ll
do. I will agree to come and check out your park if you agree to let me bring
my friends along with me.”
“Not that pathetic Wheeler.” Yugi
stared into Kaiba’s eyes. Kaiba knew that no matter how much he hate Yugi’s
friends, he’d have to let them come. “Okay, then, Yugi. But don’t get too
excited. Save your excitement for our duel.”
“When does the plane leave?” Téa
asked in excitement.
