Chapter 1 - Birth of a Monster
It was a dark and gloomy night at
Domino Pier. Across the ocean you could see a cargo ship moving through the
thick fog. About two dozen men waited on the pier for the ship. They were all
as quiet as mice, and you wouldn’t know they were there. The only sound heard
was a quiet grinding sound of each man stroking there Ocelots and M4s. They
waited calmly as the ship came into view, and slowly became clearer. Soon, the
letters “KC” could be visualised on the side of the ship.
One man looked at his watch. It was
6:47 in the morning. He would have gotten up earlier, but his younger brother
forgot to set the alarm. And so he had rushed out of bed and hurryingly stuffed
his clothes onto his body. He wore a black shirt with equally black trousers.
They seemed to be held together by a belt with a large silver buckle inscribed
with the letters “KC”, as was the ship. His clothes were covered by a long
silver-white coat with raised, pointed shoulders and extending to below the
knees. In his left hand was a titanium briefcase, which he took everywhere.
This man’s name was Seto Kaiba.
Seto Kaiba was the president of
KaibaCorp., the world’s largest gaming company. He grew up in an orphanage with
his brother Mokuba, and since he was 8 years old he had dreamed of building his
own amusement park. He just thought it would be this kind of amusement park.
At last the cargo ship hit the
docks. The anchor was hauled over the edge and landed with a splash in the
ocean.
“It’s about time,” Kaiba muttered to
himself. “Hurry up and get that thing in.”
A large door on the side of the ship
opened, landing loudly on the cement ground. A metal crate slid out of the ship
and came to rest on the pier. Immediately a guard came over with a set of
wheels for it. He gently tucked his gun into his belt and began fixing the
wheels to the poles extending from the side. The crate shook violently as he
did this.
“Well done, Kimo,” Kaiba called out
to the guard. “Load team hurry up.”
Six guards suddenly swarmed around
the crate, and began to wheel it across the pier. Everyone was careful to not
step in front of it, exposing themselves to whatever was through the barred
gate. Finally it halted in front of the gateway to a large stadium.
Kaiba approached the crate slowly.
He stood inches from it, staring through the small, fire-proof window at the
creature’s wide, red eyes.
“You are a beauty aren’t you.” He
turned away from the crate towards the men. “Load team, step away; Gatekeeper
get in there.”
Another guard came jogging in
through the crowd as the load team dispersed. He vaulted on top of the crate
and gripped onto the two large handles for the gate. He pulled with all his
might and the gate slowly rose. All seemed a success, but suddenly there was a
loud bang, and the open crate slid from the gateway.
The Gatekeeper lost balance and fell
into the front of the crate, out of everyone’s view. His scream seemed to shake
the sky, but it faded away behind the roar of the creature. The pier became lit
up with fire, before the creature quickly galloped into the stadium. Kaiba
slowly peered round the crate, only to see the charred remains of a human
skeleton, buried in the dirt.
