Local Parks, Trails and Roads for Running and Walking
Recently I
received a suggestion from Jeff Kimball,
a recent visitor to El Paso from Seattle. He intimated that I could add
to the web site suggested running parks, trails, and roads for running.
In the past I have received email from future visitors to El Paso,
inquiring as to where they could run when they arrived here. With this
page I hope to fulfill this need. (Don)
Visting Runners, Welcome to El Paso !!!
The
following El Paso runners are listed for you to contact about
anything running related in our area. Feel free to contact them.

Las Palmas to Del Sol
Route
- Where: This is an established 1/2
Marathon Race route that
is run in February. It starts at Las Palmas LifeCare Center (3333 N.
Mesa) and ends at Del Sol Medical Center (10301 Gateway West).
- Near To: Runs from West El Paso to
East El Paso. The route is mostly residential and most scenic. There
are many hills to negotiate, but no worse than grinding up Trans
Mountain. The route runs near portions of Montana and Gateway West, if
you want to try it from your motel.
- Description: The race route is 1/2
Marathon in length, but you can run any segment you wish, or the
complete route.

Edgemere Park (South of
the Airport in East El Paso)
- Where: Along the length of
Edgemere Blvd (the park runs down
the center of East and West Edgemere Blvd). About 1/2 mi north of
Interstate 10 or 3/4 mi south of Montana Ave.
- Near To: Close to hotels/motels
between Airways and
Hawkins on Interstate 10 or Montana Ave. Also close to the airport,
Bassett Center and Cielo Vista malls. Burges High School is located on
Edgemere if you want to use their track. Most tracks in El Paso are
open to the public.
- Description: A scenic narrow and
long (1.5 miles) park
in a residential area. Park is in a quiet area and has a running path.
Central East El Paso is a very congested part of town, so this park is
your best bet for the area.

Eastwood, aka Album Park
(East El Paso)
- Where: Dead center to 4
surrounding streets, Montana, Yarbrough, Montwood, and Mc Rae in East
El Paso.
- Near To: Park is buried within a
residential area, so
is not near any hotels/motels. Located about 2 miles north of I-10 and
1 mile south of Montana Ave (between Yarbrough and Mc Rae).
- Description: This park is remote
from the hotel/motel
districts but is worth the trip to get to it. This park has a 1.1 mile
trail around it, is shaded, and is a magnet for El Paso runners. It's
one of the largest parks in El Paso, very secure, very quiet, and lot's
of fellow runners use it.

Notice To El Paso Runners
This page is new so I
am seeking help from local El Paso area runners.
Email me with any or your favorite running locations. Keep in mind,
pick locations or routes that are easy to find, scenic, and safe for
our visitors to El Paso. Look at how I described the few sites above
and supply simular information.
Once in awhile, I get
email from out-of-town running visitors asking
about places to run or places of interest. If you would like to assist
me in answering their questions, you can list your email address above,
just let me know. Furnish a brief running related description of
yourself, simular to the ones above.
There is a special need
for female running contacts to
answer questions from our out-of-town female runners. As a male, I can
run anywhere in town without harassment, but the female runner has
special needs that only another female runner can address. Please let
me know is you would like to be listed above.
Thanks!
(Don)
