Frozen Food Guide For the Geek Guy
What makes a good frozen dinner? Well, from
the point of view of the average bachelor it is something that tastes
good, is worth the money one pays for it and one that is easy to
cook.
This is only a short list, after all I can't buy
every frozen meal out there. I can only get what I can, when I
can, whenever I can afford it. Besides, I tend to cook more than
I depend on frozen meals. But I will put up reviews of new meals
when I get and eat them. So worry not.
Boston Market
Beef
Sirloin and Noodles = Score
5/10 At first taste it
isn't bad. But halfway through you realize that though the meat
is excellent the noodles are sorely lacking. Boston Market has a
knack of doing things half-assed when it comes to frozen dinners.
This is a prime example.
Homestyle Chicken
with Noodles = Score 4/10
Yet another
half-assed attempt by Boston Market. What's the deal? When
I go to their actual restaraunts they are pretty good! Why do
they suck soo much at this? First off, they KILL the dish with
the bread crumbs sprinkled on top. Here is a hint Boston Market,
bread crumbs SUCK in frozen dinners. They don't reheat well
because they turn hard and flavorless and frequently burn.
Also...what is the deal with the carrots? Don't you guys realize
most ALL frozen dinners have carrots in them? Don't put any in
yours! Frequent eaters of frozen dinners are SICK of them!
Yeesh!!!!!!!
Corn Dogs
(Any Brand)
Not much that can be done here. They are all
on par to one another. They taste all the same so there is
nothing new I can say. Well, I can say this. "Avoid those
all veggie Corn Dogs...they SUCK!"
Frozen
Pizza (Any Brand)
They all basically the same except for a few.
Try Tombstone,
DiGornoes (sp?) and the best frozen pizza of all time...the KING of all
frozen pizzas Mr.P's! Mr.P's (Score
10/10) is the most fantastic frozen pizza of all time. And
it is CHEAP too! Why it hasn't become widely worshipped is
something that is beyond me.
Healthy Choice
Grilled
Chicken Caesar = Score 7/10
I'm starting to
figure out that though Healthy Choice can't seem to make a fantastic
dish, they can make some good ones. Not only is it relatively
healthier to eat them, but they are consistant with making edible
meals. No freezer can be without something from this line.
Princess
Chicken = Score 6/10
A lame attempt by
an American company to make an Oriental dish (hint: Putting soy
sauce in something does NOT make it Asian!!!!!). But though the
flavor decidedly is NOT Asian it is still pretty good. It has
carrots in it though...a lot of carrots. Soo much that you would
not want to eat this weekly because you will get sick to the point of
vomiting because of the carrots.
Roasted Chicken
Chardonnay = Score 7/10
Not bad. The
taste isn't all that unique but add everything together then it is
worth the money you shell out for it.
Hungry Man
Fried
Chicken Dinner = Score
9/10 Wow, I am always
left speechless on how good
something THAT greasy is! Add the
grease to how hard and tough the chicken gets...I dunno...it is all a
bit of heaven to me for some odd reason! Yum!
Salibury Steak
= Score 9/10 The mother
of all
Frozen Dinners! Soo good you will give a freaky version of a blow
job to your fork to get every last part of the meal! It rules!
Turkey Dinner
= Score
5/10 Not the greatest. I doubt the frozen food
industry has learned that any type of bread reheated in the microwave
eventually turns flavorless, hard and burns. Well, imagine that
for the "stuffing" that goes with the turkey. But, oh well,
atleast they tried.
Krystals
Cheese Burgers
= Score
8/10 Easy to cook burgers...only fun sized! The size
of fun is apparently not enough to satisfy anyone's appetite fully or
nearly enough. But these are very tasty! I definetly
reccomend them.
Lean Cuisine
Baked Fish
= Score
5/10 Sigh...for the taste of fish that doesn't become
soggy on the bottom and hard and inedible on the edge near the side of
the plastic container. But what you can eat of it is
average...just average.
Macaroni and
Cheese = Score 7/10
You are not a man
if you do not have this in your freezer. Even if you are allergic
to cheese, you still need this just for show. Not the best
tasting Mac & Cheese, but it is a healthier version of it. So
get it and enjoy.
Marie Callender's
Herb Roasted Chicken = Score
9/10 Tasty!
This dish was particularly good because the vegetables weren't that
bad...not great...but not bad. The chicken was very tasty and the
mashed potatoes was kick ass. I highly rate this one!
Honey Roasted Chicken Breast = Score
8/10 Very good! I actually would have given it a
score of nine, but the green beans weren't good at all. They were
still edible but just not tasty. On the other hand, the chicken
and the mashed potatoes were fantastic! I was very pleased with
this dish!
Meat Lasagna
= Score 7/10 It is just
a bit better than average. My original score was 6 but because
this is one of those rare frozen food dishes that is ACTUALLY filling I
added one more point. Seriously, I was stunned after eating this
that I wasn't hungry anymore.
Pagoda
Savory
Pork Potstickers (appetizers) = Score
7/10 Not bad. Tastes almost like the real thing
too. Cooks fast, good taste... The reason I rated it a 7 is
because it was pre-fried and then frozen. I'm not a big fan of
fried potstickers.
Stouffers
Chicken A La King
= Score
10/10 THE PERFECT FROZEN DINNER OF ALL TIME! But
ever check out the nutrition guide on it? Yikes! You can
only eat this dish rarely because of it. But I tend to get it
fairly regularly. I cannot resist it! It is the perfect
blend of everything! Excellent!
Chicken Monterrey
= Score
6/10 A little more than half good. The chicken dish
itself is lacking but the sides are pretty good! This is
definetely on my regular list because of the sides. If only they
could improve the actual chicken part of it 'cause it sucks.
Skillet Sensations, Broccoli &
Beef = Score 7/10
Not bad. Not great either. I did as the instructions said I
could and added some additional soy sauce of my own. I think that
might have accounted for the better taste. Yet, it still wasn't a
true Asian dish. This has the taste of Americans yet again trying
to make Asian food. It was okay though. One might get and
eat it once a month.
Skillet Sensations, Savory Chicken
& Rice = Score 2/10
WAY below average! First of all, carrots and peas galore!
They put way too many of them in it. Then, the sauce wasn't all
that good, in fact it was very poor. At first when I ate this, I
thought, "Maybe this was supposed to be only a side dish?". Then
I realized after eating several bites it was a dish best put
aside. I ended up tossing it in the trash and heating up some
corn dogs.
Spaghetti and
Meatballs = Score 6/10
A little above
average meal. Easy to cook, not bad to eat. A good mainstay
of any freezer.
Stuffed Cabbage
= Score
0/10 Barf... That's what it tastes like. The
cabbage does NOT do well frozen and then reheated in the
microwave. I seriously felt ill after attempting to eat this one.
TGI
Friday's
Wings...any type of their wings sold in the frozen
food section = Score 9/10
YUM!!!!!! Need I say more?
White
Castle
Cheese Burgers
= Score
8/10 Actually pretty good. Tastes exactly like
Krystals's burgers if you ask me. In fact, they are soo much
alike read my review of Krystals to know what I think of White Castle's
cheese burgers.
Zatarain's
Jambalaya with
Sausage = Score 3/10
Below average. Just completely below average. Very little
vegetables, very little sausage (though the sausage was good), just a
lot of rice and sauce. The flavor got old before I even finished
the bowl. But it wasn't horrible so it got a 3. They could
have made it better with more vegetables and/or more sausage. But
I guess Zatarain's isn't concerned about their product. This is
the first and last product I will review from them. It just isn't
worth it to try anything more from them.
